If you have a Sears outlet store that sells used or scratch and dent appliances, you can potentially save hundreds on items that may have a dent or scratch on them, but still work fine otherwise. I usually Google and research the hell out of stuff when I'm buying, but each brand has its pros and cons and they all tend to have their exceptional models and duds. Sears' Kenmore brand is often made by other companies from what I remember, so you may be able to find an LG or some other brand that's the same fridge as that Kenmore brand but costs less or more (it may have 1 or 2 things different about it that you probably couldn't care less about).
Yup, I was going to suggest this. I got a nice Kenmore fridge last year for nearly half price because it has a dent on the bottom of the side and a couple minor scratches...
If you can manage it, you might consider a dual oven. When I'm cooking, it is a pain to have to wait on one item to finish cooking at one temperature, so I can change the temperature to cook the other damn thing. Never thought of this when we built the house, but I wish we had gone that route.
I don't believe I have a Sears outlet anywhere close to my location. Looks like I am going to go with a convection oven for sure and maybe a double oven if the price is right and I can still get the convection feature. Thanks.
Convection is when there is a fan in the back of the oven that blows while you are cooking and it circulates the heat so you dont have uneven heat distribution, i'm thinking it's pretty common in all appliances now days though
Do you live anywhere near katy? There is a very popular scratch and dent dealer there that sell a butt load of stuff...i used to distribute some things to them, they offer very good deals and have some high end appliances as well, i would give them a try, they are in old katy. I forgot what they are called, they changed names so many times.
I have a few questions about appliances again considering we closed on our house yesterday. 1. Is it OK to mix appliance brands? Let's say I sell in several years, will mixin appliance brands cost me there? 2. Are Samsung appliances good? There is a Samsung convection range on sale at Lowes that I really want (FTQ353IWUB) but I have not been able to find any reviews for Samsung appliances. 3. How can you tell what matches in the kitchen when it comes to colors? I don't want to get a white/black/steel set and then it look weird in the kitchen. We both like black appliances but the sink is cast iron and white. I'm not sure if that will match or not.
1. As long as the appliances look good together and are in good shape, this should not affect any future resell value. 2. Samsung should be good, but I have no personal experience with them. 3. Most of the time, appliances tend to look fine. For example, in our old house we have a white refrigerator, blacks dishwaser, stainless steel sink and stainless steel microwave with blueish countertops. It looks fine. That being said, in our current house, all of the appliances and the sink are the brushed stainless steel and it looks better.
We just recently bought a Samsung fridge (dont remember the model). It is very nice and everyone is jealous I don't see a problem with mixing brands - we have different brands. All the colors match so thats all that matters.
Just received the samsung fridge today that I bought from Lowes over memorial day, over 3 weeks late. Got a great price on it because of all the arguing I did, but I will never shop at Lowes again.
..by the way..if you want cheap Washer / Dryer then go with Inglis brand from Best Buy. Inglis is actually Whirlpool - they are basic and cheap but do their job perfectly.
Are you buying a washer? If so spend extra cash on that. You can save cash if you go with a more simple refrigerator. Don't get caught up in appliances being some fashion statement. Take a step back and think how much you really want to spend on this stuff.
We have a washer and dryer set that is less than 3 years old. We are buying all major kitchen appliances. Refrigerator, range, over-the-range microwave, and dishwasher.
