Utah will take first for obvious reasons.

Hah. I know, I know. He wilted like a daisy in the mid-summer Texas heat this year. But I've watched every game he played. He has an NBA skill-set and a nice shot blocking wingspan. He lacks muscle & consistent effort. But I think it is a coaching problem. Rick Barnes has a way of wearing on players, particularly those who need to be mentally buffed up. He nearly sunk Damion James a few times with it for goodness sake!

Come on, this is worse than me getting excited about Jr. Elonu maybe being a Rocket.

There should be no chance or reason we go after either.

Hah! Would not say I'm excited about Atchley. Just offering up possibilities. Like I've said, he could bring skills to the team as a reserve that we like. He can spread the floor and shoot the 3, has a high basketball IQ, is a high % shooter, is a good shot blocker, can play pick & pop or pick & roll and isn't afraid to go hard to the hoop for a dunk and has a nice hook shot in the post. Obviously, he has warts or else he'd be getting drafted. I'm pretty sure he would be as useful to the team as Brian Cook and would cost the NBA minimum.

Elonu doesn't really bring much to the team that we don't already have in Joey Dorsey. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. Only watched him play a couple times.

Obviously, there are about 100 players in the league that I'd rather us go after besides either of these guys. But how many of those can we get for league minimum. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have some Houston area kids on your team.

I think this one is more feasible.
Carl Landry & Brian Cook for Nick Young & Mike James.
Help'em cut some salaries in M.James whose contract also expires next summer.

    Atchley = hell no

He suffered from the Terrence Morris syndrome (projected as a 1st rounder had he left early, but stayed and lucky to be a 2nd rounder)

Atchley was very disappointing in his sophomore and senior seasons at UT. He showed a bit of promise his junior year, but buckled in his senior year. Sadly, it seems that he lacks the drive and mental strength to make it in the NBA. Even if he bulked up, I wouldn't expect much.

Yeah, way to take it out of context. Let me see how to put this. I'm talking about dirt cheap freaking backup players. We aren't talking about guys we can trade for or sign for the MLE. So yes, that cuts down the pool of players. We don't have any picks yet fellas. By all means, lets bring in Newley, Eliyahu, Leunen, etc. See if they can play. Hell, don't we have the rights to the big French stiff Weis now? Let's be the joke of the league and bring him in.

    I'm done with this thread.

Not saying that it will happen or that it is even a possibility, but would any of you be willing to take on B. Diddy contract if we could get Camby and the #1 pick?
TMac/Brooks/Landry & future 1st rd for B. Davis/Camby/#1 Pick(Griffin)
I don't think Clippers would make this trade, but I'm asking as a Rocket fan would you do it and how good would this team be?
B. Diddy/Lawry/Barry(I know he's not a pg anymore, could get a little time if needed)
Artest/Wafer/White
Battier/Artest
Scola/Griffin/Hayes
Yao/Camby/Dorsey

Well I think I'd do it. But it would never, ever, ever happen. Ever.

My mind keeps revisiting the fact that Morey has never tipped his hand prior to a trade, making me wonder if this is all a smoke-screen.

You can see them trading McGrady and Brooks to Phoenix for Amare and Barbosa, and then flipping Amare to Washington for Caron Butler and either Mike Miller or Randy Foye. Then either holding onto Landry in his current role or dealing him if the pg they like is still on the board at an attainable pick.

    PF Scola/Landry
    SF Butler/Battier
    C Yao/Dorsey
    SG Foye/Barbosa
    PG Lowry

not sure if they would give up Foye seeing that they balked at Butler and the #5, unless they think Mike Miller is enough to make up the difference.

Not sure I would start Scola over Griffin. Yes, during the early part of the season, I would, because of the lack of experience Griffin has.

However, if Griffin turns out to be promising, we could have the best frontcourt in the game, with Artest, Griffin, and Yao.

    CAUTION: UT fan here

Atchley looked bad this year. But the proposal to give him a look seems fine to me. He won't be drafted, we get him as a big body for summer league and get a look at what he's got. As stated, he can block shots and used to be able to hit the 3 pointer (how many years ago was he good at 3's). He's strictly a roleplayer off the bench but that's exactly why we'd look at him. For an end of the bench guy we could do worse. And he won't cost anything (relatively speaking).
