I dont think dorsey ever worked on his offensive game like he's doing now. He could get by just doing the dirty work and defending, that's all you really need when you have guys like Rose and CDR playing with you in college.

As oppose to non-scorers like Yao, Artest, Brooks and Scola?

That deal makes partial sense...........if it was a 3 way deal somehow where we were sending McGrady away to somebody else, getting back Etan Thomas, another bad contract, and the #5, while Washington keeps James. Washington does not want to add salary, even in the form of an expiring for expirings. Etan Thomas and Mike James does not equal $22 million. So it could be a 3 way, say between NY, Rox, and Wiz, where McGrady goes to the Knicks, Etan Thomas, and Eddy Curry goes to the Rox, Mobley's contract goes to Washington and Washington kicks us the #5 and we send them Landry. This leaves us the #5 and a future #1, and expirings Cook and Barry to throw at Memphis to get their #2 and Jaric, Memphis getting #5 and expirings/salary dump.

it's all shot mechanics...shaq never could get it, well i guess he couldn't do it physically because of his physical structure/size...chucks' mechanics aren't that bad, even the team says he makes all his freebies in practice, missing them in games is mostly mental...and that hesitation he has on it keeps him from having an in-game J, not sure why he needs to hesitate like that though so i can't explain why he doesn't tweak that...

dorsey's form is much better than shaq, looks better than dwight's...its not robotic and has enough wrist motion/control, that's usually what separates those who never will have a shot to those who will or at least have a chance to. I think he just needs to put in the practice to make it consistent, but the form is all there....

Could be just a Morey ploy.

    Mastermind Morey strikes again?

If the Wizards' priority is adding pieces for a playoff run, then the Rockets' offer is one of the worst of the bunch. A big gamble for Washington to assume McGrady's healthy return at this point.

Of course, if they're being motivated by economics, it's a different story.

No, as oppose to the NBA game where you need more than one or two guys who can score. Since scoring is lower in college, you can get away with guys who don't score much if you have guys who can score a lot. Guys like Rose and CDR could pretty much score whenever they wanted to, or had to, so you don't have the need to ask guys like Dorsey to step up their offensive game or to work on it. In the NBA its more competitive so they can get exposed more so it's not as easy to get by without offense.

The reason Landry only averaged 9 pts a game is because we don't get him the ball enough. This is a guy who makes almost everything around the basket or gets fouled going hard to the basket. He is a solid FT shooter and his skills are extremely underrated. When he does get the ball in a low post situation he is so excited that he got the ball he seems to rush it a little bit. He has improved his overall game but unfortunately we don't see it enough since he only gets 20 mins a game. I think some of you severely underrate Carl Landry. I am sure you think we overrate him but skill is skill and Landry definitely has offensive skill that is underutilized at times. He is much more than a hustle garbage player and I am confident Morey knows this as well.

I agree that Landry could score more, maybe even be a 16-18 ppg guy, I just don't think a team that needs Carl Landry scoring that much, is probably not a very good team.

He's a great role player, let's give him credit for that. But let's not try to portray him as something he is not.

When Dorsey was sent down to the NBDL there were reports that the team was unhappy with his effort, that's where I got the disappointing work ethic. Even if you remove that argument, he's shown NOTHING as a player. I have no idea how close he is to Landry in any aspect of the game but I'm not going to make bold predictions that he's ready to step in and fill those shoes.

You want an example of a guy who could hit a jumpshot, had unbelievable athleticism, could block shots, and had a post game about equal to Landry's?

    STROMILE SWIFT.

And I'm sure there are hundreds more. No one is saying that Dorsey CAN'T be better than Landry but he has shown no reason for us to be so confident. Perhaps if he explodes during summer league, we can resume this conversation. I'd be thrilled if he does as well.

If Morey deals Landry I know it is for something good. He's no fool.

i dont think i've seen landry score at a high % when we just dump him the ball. He makes most of what he takes because of thse position he's put in, like having a wide open J or an open lane to the rim, or being right under the rim. He does a good job of finishing off what others starts, but he's not the kind of guy who you can just dump the ball to from the beginning and expect th same outcome.

What offensive skills of his are underutilized? I can see him putting up bigger numbers with more minutes, so i can understand how he's being underused in that scenario, but i don't see him bringing out more tricks if he has more minutes or more touches, he'll still get his points the same way.

i think he started out on a bad note because of his injury and it just bummed him out from the beginning...i mean this guy went up to coach adelman after the game 7 loss and told him he wanted to work his butt off this summer so he could be the defensive post presence the team needed, i think he's got his mind straight now after a rough start......

The Swift comparison could be a positive for Landry, but also a negative. The positive is he plays better than swift despite having the same skill set, the negative being that skillset isn't very advanced and has a low ceiling, so that reinforces what i said about dorsey being able to catch up since Landry isn't that far ahead. Swift's issue was his mentality. i see dorsey being closer to Landry than swift in that area.

Your saying Landry isn't that far ahead of Dorsey, based upon what. Those two guys are completely different players. Where do you come up with this stuff? Dorsey isn't even in the same league as Landry. Maybe the rockets are making a mistake in offering Landry for a lottery pick, from what your saying they probably should be offering Dorsey instead. Did you watch Dorsey play in college?

He doesn't need a low post game on this team, as long as we have Yao around. From an offensive standpoint, we need a PF that can hit the jumper with efficiency and finish around the rim. Landry has always been able to finish around the rim, and he developed a very reliable jumpshot in one summer. How many other players have done that? How long has Chuck Hayes been here, and developed nothing?

I'm just not in favor of shipping off guys who seem to have a great work ethic and actually add pieces to their game, which I rarely see these days.

I never said Dorsey was in the same league as Landry right now. I think it's possible in the near future, as in a year, year and a half......Landry is mostly hustle and athleticism, there's no denying that. Is that all he is? No, he's got a good head on his shoulders as well, which is often the difference between a swift and landry. Can't dorsey match that? I think he may be even more athletic than Landry, he's easily stronger and he's longer too i believe. does he have a good head on his shoulders or is he a knucklehead? I think he got his mindset right this year. So in those two areas i think he can match Landry now and eventually surpass him.

Now of course neither of those things include basketball fundamentals or experience, which is where i think Landry is ahead right now. Experience comes with time and play, so i think dorsey can eventually gain that automatically. Now fundamentals/bball moves...Landry doesn't excel in this area except for his shot and that reverse spin he does sometimes. His dribbling is just OK, he has no moves. An ok hook. That's it. That's what dorsey has to catch up to, and it's not really much. The hardest thing will be the jumper, but i still think that's just a matter of time.

Now, I dont think dorsey will be the same exact player Landry is..i do think Landry has a better feel for the offensive side than dorsey does...but Landry's offensive limitations are going to keep him as a hustle guy who hit the open jumper and get's put backs. I think Dorsey can do the same with a slightly weaker J, but it's the defensive side where he'll surpass Landry by a large margin. Overall i think that's better for us.

Landry's jumper wasn't broken, he's always had a decent form and shot, it just lacked some consistency, i don't think that's a huge improvement for one summer, it's not like he went into the summer being chuck and hcame out as Landry.
