So, it is the end of Fathers day, did anyone have a good experience, get some good swag, enjoy some special time with the fam? What? Me? I got to watch my youngest son play in a T-Ball sectional tournament, we lost the first game and had to win 4 in a row to advance to regionals and beat a team that had run ruled us the first two times we played them. Well, lo and behold we won 3 games to get another shot at them, and we were tied 15-15 going into the 6th inning (Where you can score 10 runs) we got 6 runs, and the other team was screaming that one of our players left first base early and should be called out. The umps did not see it, but asked our first base coach if he left early.....he said, yeah, he did.... So, we got charged with the 3rd out... The other team came to bat, down 6 with the abilty to score up to 10...all they needed was 7, and we got 2 quick outs then they started to rally, after 2 runs, we threw a guy out at 3rd for the last out, but the ump ruled him safe.....he was out by half a step. So, they kept scoring, they got 4 runs to get to 21-19, and had runners at 2nd and 3rd with the tying run at 2nd. They hit a ground ball that our pitcher fielded and threw over to first for the 3rd out....pandamoniam ensued...we won 21-19.....and we are on to regionals.... This team was ranked 2nd in our region and we were 4th.....big upset.....and I am very proud of my boy.....he even got a home run. So, on to regionals next week, where we play 4 other teams for a shot at state.... Anyway, I called my dad and we had a good cry as I told him how proud I was and he told me the same, and that he remembered feeling that way when I was a young kid....very special day. OH, and I got a Bose I-phone/I-pod alarm clock that plays music and you can use it to charge your iphone. This was a good day...what about you...any other father's got a story to share? DD
my oldest had an aau basketball tournament today. they won 2 games but lost the 1st place game.. He had 14 points and 9 assist in the losing effort. Still proud of him though. We than went out for dinner.Fogo de chao. A little treat from the wifey.Fathers day may be over for you. But my wife's in the bathroom getting ready for the grand finale.
Played golf with my dad, told him yesterday he wouldnt beat me ever again. I beat him by 1 stroke yesterday, was down 2 going into 18 and I birdied/he double bogeyed and won by 7 strokes today...woohoo!! That was my gift to him haha. was good time though
swag? Spoiler I sat here in this lousy hotel room in Charlotte, NC. no kids, no wife, no dad, no Texas, just me. I drove to Southmont, NC. walked around High Rock Lake, mostly the Abbotts Creek part of the lake. Starred endlessly into the water and counted the ripples. I stopped at a "bbq" joint on the way back, it was quite possibly the worst attempt at bbq I have ever eaten. It was so bad, after only a few bites I threw the rest to a stray dog, and after he tried it, he proceeded to lick his butthole. I am assuming it was to get the nasty taste of the "bbq" out of his mouth. Poor fella. Then I came back to my room and cried myself into a siesta. Maybe next year will be better. Fathers Day w/o my kids really sucks. FML.
Lost my Dad a couple years ago, but spent some time remembering the good times with him. Good day, overall.
I spent the day in Tampa, Florida, visiting old friends. The women grilled chicken for me, and my kids drew some hand made cards. Very relaxing. Today we begin the trip back to Texas after 2 weeks on the road.
The Swag I would have recieved went away when our car window was shot out last Wednesday. Father's Day was also my 12th Wedding anniversary. (I think it's also MadMax's, but I might be wrong) I got to play some infamous with my 9 week old daughter passed out in my lap while my son and wife made pie crust cinnamon rolls. We all got to nap. Great day.
Tough day yesterday. A little more emotional than I thought it would be, but I made it through. Hopefully next year's will be a totally different story.
I lost my father at the end of 1999, and have a picture with him, my brother, and I from the day he died. My brother and I were in Lubbock for Christmas that week and were very lucky to see him while he was still alive. I had never gotten around to getting a good frame for the picture. Yesterday when I came home, my girlfriend surprised me with a very nice frame that she had gotten for HS graduation with sayings like "sweet reminiscences", "I'll never forget", and "cherish the memories". I immediately broke into tears and told her it was the sweetest gift anyone has ever given me.
Naw, swag... Stuff We All Get. As in all the freebie promo stuff you get at concerts, jamborees, festivals, fairs, trade shows, fashion shows, other miscellaneous entertainment events, and corporate shindigs... I, for one, am offended that DaDa would insinuate that I'd (or anyone would) pass off a bunch of free cheaply made promotional crap onto my (their) dad for Father's Day. I got my dad real gifts. Quality time, and wii games.
Serious question (and I won't further derail the thread or go on any T-Ball tournament rants) - exactly how do they rank 5-7 year old T-ball teams?
That's exactly what I was thinking - that's an awfully competitive T-ball league. My son played this year and they didn't even keep score. I would guess there were only a half-dozen or so true outs made the entire season.
This is All -Stars, we don't keep score until playoffs in the regular season....which our boys won in the championship game BTW.....but this is All Star Pony league competition at the Shetland level. They have 3 weeks of tournaments before sectionals, and the teams in the region get ranked based upon those results. We were ranked 4th, and the top 2 teams (which had been way better than us) were in our bracket after a random draw. We beat the 2nd ranked team.....and so now we only have to beat either the 3rd or 1st ranked team to advance to state. And, honestly, our team is better then the 3rd ranked team....they do a lot of bush league stuff like baiting the throws which work early in T-ball but as the kids learn they stop throwing it around...we should handle them fairly easily.... And yes it is very competitve, it is competition that makes this country great....learn to acheive early on... BTW - one more thing, the coaches scout the players, and know their strengths and weaknesses....it is kinda funny, but I understand why they do it.....we know where the other teams players hit and whether they throw the ball or hold it..... It is all a bit surreal but pretty cool, most of that is transparent to the kids....but the parents know.... DD
Maybe it's just the way DaDa describes it, but it sounds awfully heartless to do advanced freaking scouting so you can take advantage of weaknesses in the game of a five year old so you can say that your team won a T-Ball tournament. When I was that age the parents all clapped if the kid ran in the right direction on the base paths. Anything past that is just fun.
The parents still all clap for all the plays, but this is ALL stars, not even close to the same as regular season, where no score is kept. This is pure competition. DD
Man, you just don't get it. Yes, these are 5-year olds. But this is the All Star Pony league competition. At the Shetland level.
