Correct unless they trade Zach, who is already a 20-10 player. 2 20-10 players on the same team, clippers would make it to the finals. Add in Camby who is a rebound machine. It is going to be hard for Griffin to average 10 rebounds a game, unless Zack is gone or Camby is hurt again.
The Rockets just had a great run in the playoffs. This team can contend now. Let's just see what we can add around Yao for the next couple of years. If you trade Yao for Griffin, you are basically *rebuilding*. I'm concerned about Yao's health as much as anyone, but I think you never trade a sure thing for an unknown in this league when your team is winning.
I don't know, man. Yao is good and all, but Camby + Griffin would be a pretty solid return. Like others have said, the only reason this type of trade would even be a remote consideration is because of Yao's injury history, but that's a pretty huge thing, in my opinion. I'd make this trade.
I see Griffin being a Emeka Okafor-type player. He'll be a good player, but not a superstar-level talent. He also doesn't block many shots and his standing reach is terrible for a power forward/center.
I would not trade Yao for an uproven rookie. He could be the second coming of Derrick Coleman. Who knows yet?
At this point, the team should stick to the proven player. Right now, potential < Experience and proven under NBA games scenarios.
But yao has been proven not able to win a ring as a teamleader as Dream did in 90s. I think we have to take this risk if we want to be seriously considered a title contender.
Outside him, some veterans are also needed to be added in order to match Yao's salary, probably Baron Davis and Kaman both will get shipped to us for Yao and fillers like Brent Barry and Hayes. T-Mac may also bring us Kaman and B-Diddy but no way for the 1st pick. Griffin and Kaman are pretty enough for our use in the paint, while Scolandry can give them however much support they need off the bench. Baron Davis will strengthen our backcourt a lot.
How does trading a all star center for a rookie PF make us a title contender? And Kaman is good but him and Griffin won't suddenly make up for the consistent scoring issue the Rockets would have without Yao. Normally teams would have to double up or front Yao to keep him until 12 points, would they take the same tactic with Griffin or Kaman? Not likely. Besides, Kaman is as injury prone if not more so then Yao Ming, so really, at best the team would be getting a backup center to replace Yao. No way you spin it is Griffin for Yao a good idea for next season short of miraculous and expensive acquisitions that would ultimately could have been done to better use getting the team a stable swingman or backup center.
I feel like making a "Would Yao feel like crap if he got traded to the Clippers?" Poll/Thread. You guys are blowing this out of proportion. No way ANYONE does Griffin for Yao, unless its the Clippers. Poor Yao going to the Clippers. He would opt out immediately.
The thread is meaningless, but if this is all there is to it for pros and cons, then why not? hard worker...that's it?
I like Yao, but his injuries and ability to opt out make this scenario something to consider...not to mention his inability to catch the entry pass. DD
emphasis on the NO, blake griffin is soft, he'll get a concussion in the first preseason game. plus we don't want any ou players : )
Now with the news on Yao's foot....still? I love Yao, but his injuries and feet scare me, I would make this deal if offered. DD
I think the Rockets FO is concerned as well. However, he has one year left for Rockets to go all out and contend for a championship. It's a risk I'll take; let him finally get a full summer rest for a final push with the right pieces.
