Family moved to Baytown when I was two. Spend pretty much all of my childhood there, although my first 2 1/2 years of high school were at a boarding school up north. I don't know if I'd call myself a native Houstonian, since I didn't really know where stuff was in Houston until I got a Metro map during my freshman year at U of H in '97. Just figured downtown, the Summit, the Zoo, Galleria, TSU, Astroworld, the Tunnel, the Med Center, Museum of Dinosaur/Imax/Planetarium, Ferrari dealership which you can see from Highway while visiting Dad, Jones Wortham Alley Center Theatre Hall, Miller Outdoor Theatre, Town & Country, Sharpstown, Westwood, Deerbrook and Baybrook Malls, and both airports were just all kind of together. I didn't definitively know there were multiple sets of big buildings in distinctly different parts of town.
born at rosewood hospital, lived in alief until i was 3, katy until i graduated (with about five months in cali/illinois).
5th generation Texan from my dad's side; born-and-raised 1st generation Houstonian at Memorial-Hermann Hospital in 1975.
Greater Houston metro area. 1 actual year in Houston (2 years old), plus I was born in another state. Lived only 2 of the past 13 years in Houston (area). Currently in California. But Houston will still be considered home. If I coulda built back tolerance for the weather and mosquitoes I'da maybe been back already.
Born in John Sealy. 281'er and a 99'er. Your poll lacks the category of those who were born and raised and moved on.
I think if you live somewhere else you fall outside of the people he was asking to answer the poll when he directed it: To Houstonians.

Spent the first 11 years of my life here, then various towns around lake chuck, la until Sept 2007 when I moved back. I still don't really know anyone here.
I was born and raised in Houston. I don't know if I count as first generation because my mother was not born here but did end up here in elementary school (although I think there was time in DC, too - her dad was a judge and politician). After HS I have lived all over the place - Dallas, Atlanta, Paris, DC, but I have been back in Houston since '03.
Why must everyone of your posts contain a name and city drop ? Elementary school does not count -- sorry.
My mothers family has been here since the 1800s but my moved away to shreveport whenever i was born and i live there for 7 years till we came back here.. been here for the past 18yrs...
not a "native". Born right outside of Hannover, Niedersachsen. I don't consider myself to be anything less than a Houstonian or a Texan.
