so i recently started using ubuntu linux. it doesn't really support ipod and sync etc. are there any mp3 player that's about 60 gig and i can just plug in and copy the music over? i don't need video support or anything. just 60 gig hd that holds all my music and no software needed when copying music from linux. thanks.
I've had a Creative Zen Touch (40 GB) that has worked pretty good. It didn't require any special software, just the driver and you can drag and drop files through Windows Explorer. I imagine it's compatible with Linux, but not sure if it's made anymore.
A quick googling led me to this: http://banshee-project.org/ It's a linux-based audio player that also synchs with iPods. It's an option
You can buy an older ipod video and install the rockbox firmware on it. I dont remember the capacity offerings, 30gb and 60gb? You could just swap that out too if you want.
You shouldn't have any problems with most versions of the iPod in Linux. Here's some information about syncing iPods in Ubuntu
banshee is working fine as we speak. thanks guys. the only issue i'm having right now is stuff with chinese characters. otherwise, i can pretty much ditch windows from now on.
