Getting a player who can produce for a year or two is not the solution. Getting younger and looking long term is.

we already have lowry and brooks. how much younger do you wanna get at the point?

people tend to forget kidd is a triple double machine. even if he doesnt score much, he rebounds and assists. he'd find a way getting the ball to yao even if they front him. and you're not gonna play him the entire game anyways. if you need to spread the offense you go with jkidd. if you need scoring at the point, you go with brooks.

he's expiring this year. maybe next year he'd come cheap.

Someone talked about it on Jonathan Feign's blog already:

Kidd would be good for the team but he's too old now and way pass his prime. And if you think Kidd could make any SG look like VC or Terry then you are a moron. Tell me what happened to Gerald Green when he was the Mavs starting SG early in the season?! VC and Terry are great players that would play just fine with or without Jason Kidd.

Did Kidd make Carter dunks like a Mars also? NOOO, VC is VC because he is THE best dunker EVER, Terry is doing the things he always does before and after Kidd came.

Not even close to. The most we can offer him is just a MLE which is roughly just half as the prize at which the Mavs may re-sign him, only some Scrub teams have that much space to offer him such a big contract but I'm pretty sure those teams are not included in Kidd's consideration. And the Mavs is by no means doing a sign&trade with houston who is their sworn enemy in SW. even if Kidd has a plan to sacrifice the money for a championship, the Lakers would be his first he should think of and the Lakers are also in demand of a decent PG to replace Fisher, so it would be easy for them to reach a deal.

I still believe Kidd has the skills to perform at a high level. Honestly i wouldn't mind getting him or Bibby on the cheap. Neither has a ring and both are great established PG's in the league.

And to whoever posted that Alston used to torch Kidd, they only thing Alston ever torched was his mouth from his hot ass dragon breath. :D

If Kidd agrees to a veterans salary or part of the mid level salary rate then it might be worth gambling on him to tutor the youngsters ( Brooks, Lowry ) otherwise I still believe the Rockets should go long term and look for young players. ( not at the PG position ) Young, meaning at the 24 to 26 age level.

I think Rockets need PG more than SG. AB is a SG.

I asked Jon about this in his blog, which already had been post here. He thought Kidds is great fit but Dallas will give him more than MLE. I think if he wants rings, he probably will accept MLE here. If DM/les show respect to him and Yao knocks his door in the morning of July 1st. It might happen.

Kidd can really help on his first season but after, he can guide the youngsters ( Brooks, Lowry ) on how to run the offense and react during crunch time.

I don't know what his contract situation is, but I think he could be a valuable part of our team. He's on the downside of his career and he knows it, maybe he'd play for the vet minimum. The man is one of the greatest all around point guards to ever play the game, his experience and guidance would pay huge dividends (though not much on the floor) I like how our PG position is coming along, but its still shaky.

Skill wise, there is no question on what He can do, the question is how long? He can be that veteran to guide the young ones when they drift apart. Its his guidance in the locker room that is more valuable then his talent.

The Rockets biggest asset in the playoffs this season was the speed of our PG. Bring Kidd in and that strength suddenly becomes a glaring weakness. I know Kidd brings other skills to the table but at this point in his career there is no way I bring the guy in.

why is this board in love with aged veterans who are about to retire. 1st Nash and now Kidd. Come on. Brooks/Lowry are good. We don't need an all star team to win games. Look at the Lakers. Shaq, Kobe, Malone, and Payton. What happened to them? Lost to the Pistons. Why?? because the Pistons were YOUNGER than the Lakers. No need to have old aged guys.

You guys act like he is one year away from needing a cane like Deke, Kidd just led the Mavs past the (aged) but skilled Spurs team. He still has game. He was still getting in his usual double doubles. I would do it as sad for partial MLE or vet min. Then sign Chris "Birdman" Anderson to the rest.
