fox news proclaiming journalism dead is like oj proclaiming nicole and ron dead. no **** idiots, you're the ones that killed it!
I agree there is some hypcrisy there, does anybody doubt that Fox leans right and that they're going to do what's in their best interest? But there is a difference between doing a special on Bush/Cheney (people), which is what I think Fox did, and doing a special on healthcare (an issue/policy that affects normal people). Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you could comment on that.
The biggest difference is that during the Fox specials, they talked about MANY issues instead of one.
There really isn't a difference, and even if there was, the claim that Obama is giving "unprecedented access" is the ultimate in FAIL.
Well Obama is pimping the WH to pass a piece of legislation and Bush was just letting cameras in either to show people what is going on or salvage his legacy.
No doubt it was a fluff piece that makes you want to barf. I guess my greater point is that the ABC special will be on one issue (a big one), and I think it's best just to wait and see how it turns out before commenting on it. I don't want to guess and say what it will be like and judge them on it. If it turns out to be an objective news story, great, I'll love it and hopefully learn something. If it turns out to be a fluff piece like the Fox ones on Bush/Cheney, then I'll be disgusted and unhappy. I don't want news people giving me opinion, I want news people giving me facts. I don't want news people taking a side, one way or the other, I want them to do their jobs as journalists and be objective. (Side note: Hannity, Beck, Olbermann, etc. are not included in the journalist list because they're opinion guys, so don't make that mistake) I think ABC News (as a network news show) has a greater responibility than Fox News (a cable news show) to be objective, responsible, and to report the facts. I hope they do. It just seems to me like conservatives are suspicious of the ABC News access to the White House for this special, and that Fox News is jealous they can't get anyone from the administration on their channel. I think that about sums it up.
You're probably right, I'm not sure what counts as "unprecedented". I think that because right now Fox News is getting "no access", a little bit of access could seem to be "unprecedented". It's funny, really.
Speaking of Fox, the cuckolded husband of Ensign's paramour wrote this to Fox before the Senator confessed... Naturally, they took no action and probably informed Ensign, leading to his announcement. (The guy was an idiot for taking it to Fox.) Now, change the name to Senator Kennedy or Senator Udall or any other Dem... what would Fox have done differently? Exactly.
If it were any other DEM senator Fox would have done the same thing CNN would have done were this letter addressed to them. I think you know that. There is a reason this republican sent this letter to a republican news station. A dem would have probably sent it to a dem news station.
