OK, since DaDakota brought up the topic of trading Yao, I want to entertain the idea from the opposite side: should Yao resign with the Rockets after 2010 for the benefit of himself as well as of the Rockets? This idea may not be as dumb as it sounds because:

For the Rockets, as some fans keep pointing out, Yao is an injury-prone and slow-footed player. The NBA and some Rockets fans favor strong, mobile, and athletic big men. With Yao leaving, it will leave enough a cap room for the team to sign another high-caliber player. Hopefully with luck the Rockets will win a championship sooner rather than later.

For Yao, he has reached the point of his career where he cannot afford waiting any longer for the team to rebuild. He might just move on, join another team that already has an all-star player and a strong supporting cast, and win a better chance for a championship.

I am very interested in your thoughts on this.

Will Yao still be playing basketball after his contract expires next season?

    Dude keeps breaking bones.

That poll is from the Rockets' perspective. The OP is apparently offended by DD's thread based on a comment he made in there so he's trying to flip the script.

Yao should do whatever any player should do......whatever is in his own best interests...period...

Yao should do whatever he feels is best for himself....

    It is a business.....

Yao seems to be a very loyal person. He sticks to his team no matter what happens. Its for the Rockets to mess things up for Yao to decide to go a different direction.

The Rockets should also do whatever is in their best interests...and if that means trading Yao...then fine...

Personally, I like Yao...a LOT...but if the right deal came along I would seriously consider it.

He probably will not break any more bones if another player can share the responsibility so Yao does not have to play over his limit.

I agree that it is a business decision. So I hope that no one should be upset if Yao decides to walk out.

I doubt he would walk completely away, the Rockets will hold his bird rights, and if he makes it clear he wants to go somewhere else the Rockets will work a sign and trade for him.

You have to wonder though, the Rockets had to sign an agreement with the CBA I believe to pay them a percentage of his wages.

If Yao leaves to another team, they would not have to honor such a deal, and it might be Yao's way of getting more money.

Couldn't blame him if he did it.

Really? See that is a trade I would make every single day of the week and twice on Sundays.

I think Yao wants to stay if the team keep improving like this year, it all depends on what will happen next season.

I think Yao will determine Tmac's fate...if he wants him gone, he will be traded, if he wants him to stay, the Rockets will keep him.

Right now, I doubt any move is being done without Yao's consideration.....his ability to opt out is a powerful tool for him.

I doubt Yao will have any say in how the organization is run. I mean, he could, but he probably won't.

There is more than a hand full of players I would take over Yao. Can we get these players? Maybe, but probably not. Yao has brought a lot more than talent to this team (money) and I just don't see Les allowing him to just walk. Maybe he would if it meant we could some how get Lebron or D-Wade but I just don't see either of them going red.

Its up to Yao if he wants to re-sign. But it won't be end of the world if he doesn't. He has his shortcomings and quite frankly today's league is all about the perimeter players with the new rules.

I just hope other big name players want to come to Houston, if Yao doesn't resign.

I am just not as quick as you are - so would you please kindly remind me of which players you want to take over Yao and may bring the better fortune to the Rockets?

Agree, but the economic side or business side would tend to shift the favor in not moving Yao unless the team gets a marquee player to offset the economic lost a YAO could fetch for the team.
