Fantastic deal for Phoenix. T-Wolves still have no clue. Why the hell are you going to trade the second best center in the game, who is still in his early 20s, along with the sixth pick, for a guy who is just going to leave your team via free agency, a year later?
If this trade goes through It's almost an admission that Yao Ming was the RIGHT choice over Amare PERIOD.
Did McHale start this rumor? Terrible trade. I don't see how this would make any sense for the T-Wolves.
Al jefferson is a better player than amare. To me they can't rebuilt with Amare as their center piece, now and day in the NBA is mostly about Super star sg.
Don't be so sure. They've displayed their stupidity already by firing their head coach just prior to the draft, thus having no clue what kind of system they'll be running or what kind of player they need to fit that system (which doesn't exist). Franchises like Minnesota, mired in futility, typically don't make the wisest of decisions. Jefferson for Amar'e straight-up is bad for the T-Wolves. Tossing in a #6 just makes them look like they want to lose for a long time.
If the Wolves trade Jefferson and the sixth pick for Amare, Minny would fail so badly. Hey, Minny! NASA called. They spotted Amare's ego from the moon. No way in hell would Amare even consider going to the Wolves. Sure, he would be the number one option there...but he would be the ONLY option!
http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm An NBA source said today that Minnesota forward-center Al Jefferson is not being traded to the Suns with the sixth overall pick for Suns All-Star forward Amare Stoudemire. An NBA executive told The Globe on Wednesday that the teams discussed the trade. But another source acknowledged the discussion, but also said the Suns were quickly turned down. The source added that the Wolves new general manager David Kahn has even called Jefferson, an ex-Celtic, to tell him the trade would not happen. As for Stoudemire, the cost-cutting Suns definitely seem interesting in moving him and his hefty salary. Boston Globe An NBA executive told the Boston Globe today that the Minnesota Timberwolves are working a deal with the Phoenix Suns that would send former Celtics forward Al Jefferson and their sixth pick in next week's NBA Draft for All-Star Amare Stoudemire. Boston Globe But the truth is that there have been NO discussions between the teams about this trade. It is a total BS made up rumor with no legs. The Suns are shopping Amare, but more than likely if they don't find a deal that they love they will keep him and deal with the alternatives at a later date. KTAR.com The Suns have no intention at this time of re-signing him and very well could let Amare play out next season -- a contract year if he opts out as expected -- and either deal him at the trade deadline or after the season in a sign and trade deal. KTAR.com Suns General Manager Steve Kerr will be in New York Thursday to secure a piece of the Suns' future. Early draft preparation? No. A meeting at the NBA's offices? No. He's in New York to meet with Steve Nash, who lives there in the summer. Kerr will meet with the point guard and his agent, Bill Duffy, Thursday to discuss a contract extension and the the franchise's plan with the draft a week away, free agency two weeks away and numerous trade possibilities. "It's more about letting each other know how we feel," Kerr said. "I can give him some ideas (of a plan), but there's no telling what can happen." Arizona Republic
You are correct in that Amare is more proven. He has proven that he can hang in the playoffs. But that alone does not make him a stone cold lock for being a better player than Jefferson. Remember that once upon a time Bonzi had that huge playoff performance. And Zach Randolph had that huge series against the Mavs where he could not be stopped. Yet both those guys, for one reason or another, are garbage. I'm not saying that Amare IS garbage, but in addition to Amare proving that he has talent, he has also proven a few other things in his time with the Suns. One, he can't carry a team if he's the best player. He certainly hasn't shown it so far. Two, he's not nearly as committed to defense or rebounding as he should be, something key to his position. And if the rumors are true, he's a ****ty teammate as well. Oh, and there is the injuries. Jefferson hasn't shown those playoff performances, and hasn't shown that he can be the main guy on a winning team(yet), but some of those other negatives that Amare has shown, Jefferson has not(yet). Add to that Jefferson's friendly contract and I don't see where this argument that Amare is so way far ahead Jefferson is grounded from. It appears to be all reputation and hyperbole.
Big suprise here. Al Jefferson is one of the best bigmen in the league, way better then Amare. Not many players have the post game that he has, he will be a beast once he gets more comfortable passing out of double teams. Definitely one of those players who could make his teamates better.
Why so much amare hate. Al jefferson isn't a franchise player otherwise his team wouldn't suck so much. I think their team did better without him.
Uh Oh! sounds like someones gunna get pissed off (Amare). I wouldn't be surprised if he chose to sit out a practice or two and ask for a trade. It's gunna be an ugly offseason for the Suns.
Phoenix would be lottery bound after a few years of flirting at the top the NBA, where cheap owners happen
"Minnesota Timberwolves are working on a deal with...." " the Suns were quickly turned down..." lol Looks like was automatically assumed the T-Wolves instigated the move cuz they're usually dumb about these things. But they're not THAT dumb after all.
