Aaron Brooks is a future 15 PPG scorer, but the Rockets have too many effective scorers (Artest, T-Mac, Yao, Scola) on our team already, and I don't think a shoot first PG will be able to micromanage the needs of every one of them. Kyle Lowry is nice bundle of strength and energy, but we all know he's nothing more than a spark off the bench. So I think that Morey will be looking to grab a pass-first PG who doesn't need to dominate the ball to be effective. Rubio fits the bill perfectly, he's known for his court vision and uncanny passing skills, but he can also play great defense. He doesn't have much lift under his already slow-release shot, but Rubio is a dead eye when he has time to shoot, and with T-Mac and Yao drawing double teams, I don't see why he won't be able to.

T-mac will stay. He's a gamble, but I would take a healthy T-mac next year over any of the players in the draft. Ron Artest is also off the tables as he is looking for a championship and he would rather go play overseas for more money than to be traded to a rebuilding team. Yao is obviously the cornerstone of the franchise and Scola is too unique a player to let go, but everyone else, yes even Battier imo, will be up for grabs.

    4. Tyreke Evans - 6′5 220 SG - Memphis: Very long armed guy with some combo skills but he’s not a PG. Played it out of necessity at Memphis. Very good with ball but doesn’t use screens very well & is a streaky shooter at best. % may be hurt by selection as much as stroke. Slow feet could be a defensive liability, tested slower in agility drills than BJ Mullens (7′1) and Josh Heytvelt (6′11).

I've never seen him play so I have no idea but that doesn't sound much like the extremely positive things some people in this thread have been saying about Evans.

I'm just going by the netscoutsbasketball.com blurb as I don't know his game at all, and 6-3 would be a good size for a true PG if he's not a tweener as you say he is. But I see there's not a lot of love for Curry on this board.

Morey will not hold on to Brooks the way Rockets office held on to Luther Head. When a player has his stock up trade him (if you don't expect much more from him).

Its still amazing people want to get rid of brooks when he the sole reason the lakers series was even competitive. If u don't believe me, go check fishers stats vs denver and orlando. Against houston, he couldn't even stay on the floor.

People like me only get rid of him because of Rubio, not for anyone else. Not for a Center or anybody else...hell no. If you're going to get rid of Brooks, you want someone that is BETTER such as Steve Nash or Rubio.

    Amen brother....

I hope Morey is not a Mark Cuban type that keeps swinging for the fences when sometimes a solid single gets it done.

Right now this team has great chemistry and could use Tmac's expiring to upgrade some minor weaknesses.

No need to blow it up.

leebigez likes them athletic and tall. Brooks fits half the equation, at least! The ideal situation would be to get Rubio and hang on to Brooks, IMO, but Brooks may never be worth more than he is today. Almost every website I've read the last few days has a blurb or a story where Brooks is praised for his performance in the playoffs, especially against the Fakers. Not only by the writers, the "talking heads," but by guys in the draft. One quote I read on the SI site today had one of the small quick points (would have to look it up to say who it was, but you'd know him) who said, "Brooks made me a nice bit of change during the playoffs!" Something like that. Brooks has value, and you gotta give it to get it.

nice find. morey has been talking about speed and athleticism for a couple years now. brooks, landry, dorsey, wafer, lowry, and white all fit the bill. by this report, evan's does not.

deckard and yao4real, who do u want a slow footed, ball dominating, non shooting pg like rubio? If u really want to help the pg spot, go get a guy like jaric who is 6'7 pg that can handle and defend 2 gaurds. Rubio is a backwards move and it goes against everything adelman has ever had as a pg. U don't change ur core beliefs for a guy that doesn't have any special qualities.

our offense requires yao to get the ball, which means we need a pg that can get him the ball instead of a sg playing a pg

Again, I have not seen any of these guys play, so I am just responding to a post that caught my eye. No facts coming from me on this one.

In my opinion Jason Williams was an awaful player. A real chucker who did not have his head in the game. What I took away from the post was that Rubio was the opposite, a heady player with a lot of intangibles. Much like Battier, he contributes to wins, we are just not sure how. Clearly Morey has a way to evaluate players that we do not know or fully understand. Since we don't know how to quantify those intangibles, we call it heart.

Personally, I like watching smart, team oriented players. I love Battier and I am excited about Lowery (mostly because I think Morey likes him a lot). If (big IF) what the poster says about Rubio fitting into that category is true, I would be pleasedd if hte Rockets get him.

My seceret fantasy, which I know is not going to happen, is that we get JVG back. I really enjoyed watching good defense and a well disiplined team. I know a lot of you didn't like his style, but you have to admit that JVG has heart. Just ask Alonzo.

I definitely agree with those who have asserted that Daryl Morey is attempting to "sell high" with Aaron Brooks. He is not GIVING him away. If Morey cannot get "disproportionate value" for Brooks, then Aaron will be back in a Rockets uniform next season. But there may be some GMs out there willing to "overpay" for Brooks in a trade. Morey is looking to take advantage of that fact.

Another thing to consider is that Daryl was quoted as saying that the Rafer Alston-Kyle Lowry trade allowed the Rockets to "upgrade" at the PG position. That implies that Morey viewed Lowry as an upgrade to his then-starting PG. It doesn't make sense to say that he really was talking about Brooks taking over as the starter, since Brooks could just as easily have become the starter if Adelman benched Rafer. Given this fact, it is entirely possible that Morey is looking to take a future franchise PG (who is superior to both Brooks and Lowry long-term) and let him be groomed behind Kyle Lowry for 1-2 seasons. In Morey's mind, having Kyle Lowry as the Rockets' starting PG is a distinct possibility.

I trust that Morey will make a value-based move. I like Aaron Brooks, but if the Rockets can get $1.35 on the dollar for him right now, I'll wish him well on another team and gladly take a PG rotation of Lowry (starter), a lottery pick (and possibly future franchise player) and a cheap veteran free agent acquisition.

Oh, and another thing. For those that lament that Morey is possibly looking to trade Aaron Brooks for a lottery pick who will be "just a rookie" next season, there really isn't THAT much a difference in the way of experience. This past season was the first for Brooks as a regular rotation player. His rookie year, he played most of the season as the third-stringer (first, behind Rafer and Mike James, then briefly behind Rafer and Francis, and then after the trade deadline, behind Rafer and Bobby Jackson). If the lottery pick is the primary backup to Lowry next season, he'll have almost as much NBA playing experience as Brooks did heading into this past playoffs. Now, I recognize that Brooks having played four full seasons of college ball probably helps, but it still doesn't make the "experience gap" THAT great. We're not talking about replacing a veteran with a rookie. This would be swapping a guy with two NBA seasons under his belt (only one with regular playing time) for a (presumably) more talented rookie.

    Again, I like Aaron Brooks. I'm just saying . . .

Bimathug, I understand the sell high theory, but that is better served when talking about a older guy. Morey may view lowry as a starter, but adelman has never had a non shooter at pg. Lowry can't nor won't beat brooks out. It could be said easily that brooks was the reason why houston was even competitive with la. Given the 3yr window of yao and the lack of a paul or williams in this draft class, u don't get rid of the guy. Now if u can get a vet like davis or a younger simlar player like ellis, ok, but not any guy in this draft.

I don't get why the team needs another pg. The team needs a backup C and SG. I believe TMac will be gone if the Rockets do get a pick in the Draft.

I was actually just responding to Worzel's post from the previous page. I know nothing about Evans and just found that brief assessment interesting after the things I read from some previous posters.

By what i know Rubio/s bball IQ is through the roof. Not to mention he is really really young, i think he is a star in the making and if we have a shot at him giving up brooks and a strong role player then take it. We need a star on our team, a reliable one that will not be in constant danger of of being injured.

im sure AB is not in the deal...

most likely our PF's are...but i'm not gonna lie, i'm confident b/c morey is handling this and that's the only reason..

Adelman has never had a non-shooting PG??? Who do you think was running the point for the Rockets the past four seasons before Brooks took over? Rafer Alston is one of the worst shooting starting PGs of our generation. Sure, he's a somewhat decent 3-point shooter, but he is a terrible shooter inside the 3-point line and inside. Lowry has a sold mid-range jumper and is one of the best finishers on contact among PGs in the NBA today.

I understand your point. Brooks offers a much better 3-point threat than Lowry would. I still have hope that Lowry can work on his 3-point shot over the summer (this being the first time that Lowry is being asked to cultivate that aspect of his game, since the Griz didn't exactly run an inside-out offense). But I think you're focusing too much on one hot streak from a player who went through his share of hot and cold streaks this season.

Also, I think most people on this BBS can agree that, when healthy, Baron Davis is one of the best PGs in the league. However, his contract (especially at his age) is absolutely TOXIC. No one's arguing that Davis is a good player, but taking on his contract would screw the Rockets over long term.
