Shaq/Dorsey/Landry/Lowry as our second unit. How's that for physicality? Then, of course, you'd have Wafer. That second unit could start on some teams.
Phoenix was reported to be looking to save several million dollars in 2009/10 to avoid luxury tax. Sending them McGrady's contract puts them further in the hole for next year. If they were to be interested in dealing Shaq to us, they would want to send back several more million than they bring in. If I'm not mistaken, that would put us well over the LT threshold before even considering resigning Artest, Wafer or anybody else. My guess is they want to send Shaq out and take less money back in retrun based on the deals with Cleveland they were rumored to be contemplating over last season. For these reasons, I don't see how we could do a two-way deal with them centered around Shaq and McGrady. If anything, we would have to package about $15 mil in contracts to send them to bring in Shaq to play 10-15 mpg as a backup center. Who would you package other than McGrady for Shaq and do you think Les would be willing to into LT to get a backup C while ignoring other needs?
I believe backup C is the #1 need on this team. Les has signaled willingness to pay the LT for the right guy. Acquiring Shaq would put the Rockets above the Lakers as far as I'm concerned. Phoenix would just have to send us more than Shaq as filler to compensate for McGrady's higher salary. Our problem against the Lakers was that we had no one other than Yao and Scola that could score consistently inside. I don't want a backup C that's just going to give up fouls and can't score. We have Chuck Hayes for that. If the Suns trade Shaq, there's no way in hell they are trading Amare too. Win now or bust.
Sorry MasterIce, it looks like Shaq to Cleveland is back on and could happen. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4257421
Could happen is not the same as "will" happen. Cleveland can only make a deal that makes financial sense for Phoenix. Houston can make a deal that makes both financial and basketball sense for the Suns.
It's a tough gamble, so I'm going to havce to say no. I think we can do something better with Tmac's contract...something that really addresses what we need.
yao is actually one of the few centers shaq respects....i actually think he would play backup to yao as long as he was getting 20 min or so.....but im not sure i want him it would be interesting though.....mabye shaq could teach yao a thing or two you never know.....rather have shaq than she-mac
Did you read the same story and watch the same video as me? It would make financial sense for Phoenix. Not to mention, it would make basketball sense too. But I'll recap it just in case you didnt read or watch the story/video I did. Trade talks just begin again and are ongoing, though also with that said nothing is iminent. The trade could and would work for all sides, making financial and basketball sense for both teams. And going back to a point you made earlier, you said they could contend for a playoff spot, well here you go from the horses mouth, they dont believe they are playoff contenders. If you still arent ready to believe it from this and even from before(from other posters), Shaq to the Rockets is a no go and this can be given a rest.
Let me know when we have a player like those you mentioned in their prime/championship winning days and then you can make that comment.
Shaq and Yao on the floor together I worry that shaq will inadvertently step on Yao's precious glass feet or the other way around I mean Yao did break Ben Wallace's foot, booo yah!
i agree why wouldn't he? he's getting old, and wants another title, it would be very interesting for both Yao and Shaq to play together because they can have a long rest. And we can play em both like the "Gasol-Bynum" combination. TMac would fit very well with the Phoenix offense. Keep Ron and bring a finisher, you'll see Rox 2010 champs!
For Cleveland, it makes perfect sense. It gives LeBron a dominant big man and a greater chance if you will to win a ring. And for Phoenix, maybe you missed it again, I dont think the Suns are too worried in who they are getting back. If you read the bottom part of that article, it clearly states that they no longer think they are playoff contenders and are willing to trade away one of their stars with Shaq being the oldest. And its all about the financial side of the deal, not who is or isnt coming back in the deal [for Phoenix]
