It seems you have forgotten Yao often got into foul troubles during his early years. Yao will never get good treatment from the Refs. That's the bloody truth. Yao can never change that wether he plays agreesive or not. Yao and the team know that clearly and have to live with that. Be realistic.
I normally explain a little better when I post but this one requires nothing more than this... Dwight should be watching Yao and learn some touch and a post up game aside from dunking. This would make him a complete player but as it stands, he can dunk.
maybe it should be the other way around? game 4 was howard's loss, you have to make one freethrow man, yao wouldn't miss...
All big men have this issue Heyangw but please don't think anyone is going to just roll out the red carpet and bend the rules for Yao. Yao does need to establish early in the game that he is agressive. It will set the tempo and way things are going to be called for him and the rest of the game. Eventually he'll set the tone on how he will be refed the rest of the season. He hasn't always done that. There are glimpses of it in some games but in others he seems to just try and draw fouls. He should listen to Mutumbo and Hakeem. You may get a foul or two at first but after that it will get easier and the calls will come but he has to learn how to set the tone.
My point exactly. The comparison is really apples to oranges. One is just blatantly getting regular bad calls (Yao), and the other gets bad calls from time to time but is allowed a lot of "brand" calls from the refs. By the way, those "brand" calls by the refs are true and quite obvious but they take away a lot from the beauty of the game. But I guess the majority of fans are gullible enough to just accept this travesty and, like sheep, allow the show to go on and pretend that all is well. So long as we fans keep doling out our hard earned cash the NBA is just happy and willing to take them.
Yeah but Howard is missing free throws in the NBA Finals. Based on recent evidence, what would Yao's box score look like if the Rockets were in the Finals? Yao Ming - DNP - Stress fracture
I agree with tycoonchip on this one. If you see my earlier post, you will know my take on this. In his early career, Yao had to play conservatively in order to keep himself in the game and establish himself as a superstar in this league. Now he had also attained such status, and he can afford to play a little more physical games. He will get called for fouls for sure, but I believe that now he has the power to force Refs to adjust to his play eventually. You don’t’ expect calls go your way every night but Refs cannot foul him out every game either.
Which he is shown so far to be a position he wouldn't be in at all if he had to face the Lakers in the second round like Yao did.
Yao is a super tall center with bunch of consistent post moves, and can shoot freethrows. howard is a super buff 7 footer with a whole lot of hops and power. and think they can both learn from eachother
Howard can improve post moves and free throws. Yao can't learn athleticism. Believe me, you don't want a 7'6" injury-prone guy to be be athletic anyways. Howard's ceiling is much higher than Yao's.
Shaq struggled with that **** his entire career, and he's the real deal. How is the pretender supposed to do any better?
Lets be real hear Howard is an athletic center with no post moves. He relies on people setting him up with baskets. You can not throw the ball down low to him and expect 2 points. Deffensively he is intimidating and get a lot of rebounds but his bloack shot go out of bounds too much. His opponents gets another chance to set their offense and his team can't get on a fast break because he is like other young player infactuatic with the highlight black insted of the smart one.
What made you guys to misprize yao like that ?who the hell you think you are? are you so-called clutch fans ? what do you expect ?Yao to leave Houston? tell me
wtf? what do you expect him to do, catch the ball every time? that's ridiculous, you made it sound like its a bad thing to block someone. ok mayb, it gives the team another chance, so what, better than letting them score 2 points. and how do you make a "smart block"??
Maybe if Howard was in a training facility from the age of 14 working on basketball instead of going to school, he would be a little more polished offensively. Yeah, I said it. The international guys are suppose to be ahead of the american guys. They get to hoop way more, get paid, while most of the american guys have to go to high school and some college class. There are limitations when working under supervision whereas the internatgional guys get to just hoop and get paid. Howard will never be as polished offensively as Yao, but he doesn't have to because he can score in pretty much more ways. He can run the floor, get post touches, offensive rebounds, alley oops, and no matter yao's ft attempts, howard still scores more points from there than Yao. Its not a knock n Yao or howard, they're just different, but we've seen a guy like arenas miss free throws in the clutch in the playoffs. I remember tracy and yao missing crucial 4th free throws vs dallas that couldve sealed the rockets a win and given them a commanding lead. Big gam james worthy bricked some huge free throws in the playoffs vs boston 1 yr. Both guys have holes in their game;but even the most hardened Yao supporter can admit at 23, howard has time on his side whereas yao has 3 good yrs tops. Orlando would be in this position had they played it safe and drafted okefor.
