Pardon me for saying this, but for whatever reasons, you tend to exaggerate or twist other people’s words to support your argument. No one is saying Howard is not a real factor for the Magic. The question is how big of the role he is playing relative to other Magic players in the team success. For example, should he be credited for 80% of the team success, or just for 35% while 25% each goes to Turkoglu and Lewis. Howard is one of the two best centers in the game. But let me repeat myself again, there is no reason to glorify the value of Howard from a relative term to an absolute one.
they didn't glorify the value of howard. if you give yao 80% of rocket success, as most people do here, i'd like to see your arguement howard doesn't contribute as much to the magic...
Well, Yao and Howard lead their teams but clearly other players have also contributed significantly. No one should deny that. I was really impressed by the performance of Turkoglu in this series. I thought that he was decent but I don’t know that he is this good. A baller who is 6’10, tough, can dribble, shoot, pass, hand the ball, and run the offense. Importantly, he can be a go-to guy down the stretch. Does that remind you of someone?
jameer nelson was top 2 in shooting OVERALL for a perimeter player when he did play. he shot 50% overall and 45% from 3s during the seaosn when he did play. tracy was terrible for the most part this year so losing him WAS GOOD. and losing rafer WAS GOOD. those were GOOD changes for us.
One thing Yao can learn from Howard -- if they ever tried fronting Howard, Hedo would just lob it to him all day long. Why can't they do that when Yao gets fronted?
howard can jump out of the building and can jump up high if the ball is lobbed up. that's why rarely does he get fronted. yao can't do that. for yao to beat the front, he has to be willing to slide outside a fwe times and make that midrange J.
Maybe you should look at it this way: In a perfect world, a healthy team is 100% efficient, and t-mac and Yao contributes 35% each. This year t-mac was -10%. So the team was 65% without him, and 55% with him. You are right that 65% is better than 55%, but it still put you in a disadvantage when you play a team that is 100%. In other words, losing the 20-mil cap that can buy you 30% efficiency is really BAD no matter how you spin it. As for Rafer, I can argue that losing him is BAD for the team and Yao particularly. This is not because he is in the finals and we are not. Rather, his experience and ball handling ability will nicely complement the strength of Brooks, and Yao will be more effective with both, not just Brooks, running the point.
i would like to add, yao's teammate need to watch Dwight teammate on how to get the ball to him, instead of jacking up bricks. Also i would love to see, yao can get inside position and use his body more than his fade way.
howard has taken FOUR shots. he's dominating this game b/c he's basically shutting down the paint on the lakers, and grabbing every rebound possible. this is the reason howard is getting a lot of love. everyone and their mama know that howard is not the offensive player that yao is, but he changes the game/pace/tempo so much when he just plays hard like he is right now. he had 1 point and 11 rebounds and 3 blocks to end the 1st. and that's DOMINATING despite scoring 1 freakin' point. however, for howard to reach that elite level, he has to be able to have some type of consistent low post game. if he can replicate his last 2 shots more often, he'll be dominant.
Again, I wish Yao could get the calls Howard is getting. Yao'd be fouled out already playing that way. Pushed on every offensive rebounds and ran over a couple guys, yet only 1 personal foul.
u gotta be aggressive. if yao shows he's willing to get extremely physical, he'll get those calls. it's like tracy for the past few years. he gets fouled when he drives, but b/c he doesn't do it enough at times, he doesn't get the calls. howard is FORCING THE ISSUE. he's being ultra active... the reason a guy like lebron or even kevin martin get calls is b/c they attack ALL THE TIME.
No man, it's not like Yao hasn't tried to be aggressive before, you know what happened. Every flop is an offensive foul for Yao, let alone a true offensive foul.
remember that warriors game a year ago when yao got like 18 ft attempts. he was ULTRA aggressive, shooting over double teams... dude got every call he wanted b/c he just went at it. so if he shows it "consistently," he'll get his share of calls.
howard averages 3.42 fouls per game in 35 minutes. yao averages 3.32 fouls per game in 33 minutes. remember howard fouled out a few times earlier in the playoffs. you're just seeing an ULTRA aggressive howard tonight.
i agree, but the ref will get tired of seeing it, for example in cavs and magic series, the king of flop (you know who its) was flopping all around, and howard was getting bs call but after a few time, the ref see though it and no call.
