Artest will be lucky to get 10 mil a year this offseason with the economy of things going south. If he can get anything over what he was making he should jump on it because he won't get some crazy salary here unless its overseas.
Yep, nothing to see here. Detroit is letting go it's 30+ yr old players. So why would they bring in another one, one who has a negative history there?
Fellas leave RIP alone he will be way to old by the time his contract is over and he plays no defense. His contract is terrible and Morey would never touch him. Just look at his initials and leave at that R.I.P (rest in peace)
Trust me there are others I would rather have like Richard Jefferson for that kind of money but if we had to deal with Detroit then Rip is the only guy I would want on that god awful team.
No way he is going to Detroit. Hopefully we can get soem big acquisitions this offseason and keep Ron, but this time put him in as a 3rd or 4th option.
He's just telling Morey it's about the money and he'll go to the highest bidder even if it's as unlikely a place as Detroit. No way he goes to Detroit, they would have to pass some state law to allow him play there.
I'd rather keep Ron, but if we have the opportunity to get prince and rip, then i'd re-consider...only if both come over though.. Chilcutt
It's pretty obvious that Morey told him to fish for offers, so the he would have some sort of benchmark for a counter proposal. The trouble is that Ron probably isn't getting flooded with the interest that he or his agent had hoped for. It's a combination of things working against him, his declining game, his age, general managers not being convinced that he's genuinely changed, poor economy, and teams saving their cash for 2010. All of this adds up to Ron probably having to accept a contract for far less than he expected, and that might lead to bitterness, and that might lead to the return of crazy pills, and this is why it won't bother me too much if Ron doesn't re-sign with the Rockets. I appreciate how he helped the team, but he simply has too many question marks to commit a long term guaranteed contract to.
Not a chance RA is a Piston. He's a Rock, Rock SnT, or maybe just maybe a Greek. But he'll be a Piston like he'll be a Pacer.
The Rockets paid Artest $ 8.5 million last season so how can they ask a player with so much left in the tank to take a decrease in salary?. I think Artest's ankle injury was never fully healed from early last season and that's why many players blew right by him because of his lack of lateral movement being 100%. I honestly think he's worth $12 million on the market if the economy was good but in light of a weak economy it would only be fair to pay Ron $10.5 million a year, and trade McGrady to Golden State for 6-10 Rony Turiaf as Yao's backup, 6-8 Stephen Jackson to start at the 3 on the wing, and Corey Maggette, and use Artest as the swing 2,3 and 4 if desperate. Starting lineup: Brooks/Lowry/Barry at PG Artest/Maggette/Barry at SG Jackson/Battier/Artest at SF Scola/Turiaf/Hayes at PF Yao/Turiaf/Scola at C
It was $7.4 million. Rockets don't have to ask anything just choose to offer him his market value should that be lower than his previous salary.
Artest aint worht more than 10 million by NBA standards in my opinion. Maybe 12 if we REALLY need him. If he wants to go to Detroit then let him leave. He already knows the fans there really well...lol.
