Her 14 year old daughter was the one at the game...not the one with the kid...so yes, it was a joke about A-rod having sex with a 14 year old. Very classy Dave!
Oops, I didn't realize that. I don't watch baseball and I certainly don't watch the Yankees. Yeah, that actually puts a whole new spin on this for me. Pretty classless of Letterman. I used to worship Letterman back in the NBC days. I even used to wear tennis shoes with my suit back in college so I could look like him. But in the last decade or so, he has become too political for me. I haven't watched his show in years.
i adopt this post as well. whatever you think about it, ima, is cool with me! seriously, i had no idea the daughter was 14.
I love the right wing: http://www.thefoxnation.com/media/2009/06/09/out-bounds-letterman-takes-swipe-bristol-palin http://www.thefoxnation.com/media/2...d-about-your-18-year-old-not-your-14-year-old (And I really love Letterman... that 2nd video is great.)
Lettermen's crack staff did not fact check his ARod joke, to make sure the correct Palin daughter was at the game.

This is the 2nd video, where Letterman talks about it.
This. I remember him. David Foster Wallace, one of the greats, profiled this guy in the Atlantic four years back, in an opinion piece about talk radio. (Ziegler was also the one who was making a "documentary" about the stupidity of [minority] voters in the days after Obama's election; the Youtube clips of random Obama-supporting interviewees, ignorant of basic American history, were discussed here.) Among many other foibles, he's gotten canned a few times for making racially disparaging remarks, and has an extremely thin skin. The last, great, line:
Letterman mailed it in a long time ago. He is now just another guy who lets his political opinions get in the way of making a quality show.
I want to see Palin accept Letterman's invitation. Eff it, I just want to see Palin live. That would be a riot.
Funny, I was thinking the exact opposite (about his 'mailing it in'). I started watching Conan again this week - and I like Conan a lot, he's very entertaining - but Dave is still the most naturally funny man in late night, in my mind. Different strokes for different folks, I'm sure, but I still love Dave.
Sounds to me like Dave was going for the obvious Bristol Palin joke. I used to watch Dave a lot around 7-8 years ago back when Craig Kilborn followed. Haven't really watched since.
I used to be a huge Letterman fan and found him funnier than Leno but once Conan came to the same time slot it was no comparison. Lettermna is letting politics get in the way of quality comedy.
Defensive people usually don't drink their own kool-aid. I'm sorry, but if the guy believed a word out of his own mouth, he would have been more calm, more calculated, and above all, answer the questions at hand. He's a dick trying to score some points with his brash attitude. Pallin's daughter is a slut, I'm sorry. The whole family is suspect, AND SHE'S A MEDIA FIGURE! You can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Left, right, center, whatever, you will be made fun of for your actions. SNL's bread and butter used to be Clinton jokes, then Bush, then Pallin, comedy doesn't take a side. Essentially, comedy is anarchy, and I'm ok with that. The big bad republican wants to cry now? Move to some desolate state like Alask... nevermind, just keep your head out of the news.
