Really sad story - friend of mine went to school with a guy who was on this flight. He had just asked his Brazilian girlfriend to marry him, they had gone to Brazil to tell her family and have a holiday there with them. Last minute change and they got on this flight to go back to Europe. So sad.
Was he on CH 13? There was a story about this guy who were friends with them in Germany or something like that on CH 13 news.
hmmmmmm. [rquoter]Terror Names Linked To Doomed Flight AF 447 Wednesday June 10, 2009 Peter Allen, in Paris Two passengers with names linked to Islamic terrorism were on the Air France flight which crashed with the loss of 228 lives, it has emerged. Debris from Air France flight AF 447 has been recovered from the Atlantic French secret servicemen established the connection while working through the list of those who boarded the doomed Airbus in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on May 31. Flight AF 447 crashed in the mid-Atlantic en route to Paris during a violent storm. While it is certain there were computer malfunctions, terrorism has not been ruled out. Soon after news of the fatal crash broke, agents working for the DGSE (Direction Générale de la Sécurité Extérieure), the French equivalent of MI6, were dispatched to Brazil. It was there that they established that two names on the passenger list are also on highly-classified documents listing the names of radical Muslims considered a threat to the French Republic. A source working for the French security services told Paris weekly L'Express that the link was "highly significant". Agents are now trying to establish dates of birth for the two dead passengers, and family connections. There is a possibility the name similarities are simply a "macabre coincidence", the source added, but the revelation is still being "taken very seriously". France has received numerous threats from Islamic terrorist groups in recent months, especially since French troops were sent to fight in Afghanistan. Security chiefs have been particularly worried about airborne suicide attacks similar to the ones on the US on September 11, 2001.[/rquoter]
This is going to really interesting if this terrorist stuff starts popping up... that's major right there... and there were three americans on the flight, so it involves us also. I hope it's nothing terror related though, we're just about to get out of this stupid war...
Very interesting. As I stated earlier: due to post-9/11 heightened security one is reluctant to consider terrorism a possibility, but a bomb or some sort of explosion could explain why the flight crew seemingly didn't have enough time to even get off a mayday. That's extremely unusual in the case of an emergency. The "golden rule" to remember with airline accidents is each incident is a chain of events leading up to a certain point. Well, an explosion can definitely erase a few steps in that instance. Given this new information i'm more open to terrorism as a possibility. This iced over speed sensor and pitot tube theory they're using right now is bogus, IMO. Hell, basic civilian aircraft have what's called 'pitot heat' to de-ice the speed sensors in the event of a freeze over, let alone a $200M jetliner.
Not sure, I'm not from Houston. They are from Germany, yeah. The girl I know who was friends with them is German and they went to school together there.
We're closer out than we are in.... I mean it's going towards a downward trend as far getting out... what I'm saying is.. we already have a lot on our plate, and we still have rising conflicts now with North Korea... we don't need this.
Italian who missed fatal Air France flight dies in car crash MOSCOW, June 10 (RIA Novosti) - An Italian woman who arrived late for the Air France plane flight that crashed in the Atlantic last week, killing all 228 on board, has died in a car accident, Italy's ANSA news agency reported. Johanna Ganthaler, a pensioner from the Bolzano-Bozen Province (South Tyrol), and her husband Kurt, were vacationing in Brazil and missed Air France flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris on June 1. The couple took a flight to Europe later that day. The car veered off the road near Kufstein, Austria, killing Johanna. Sounds like something on Final Destination. http://en.rian.ru/world/20090610/155219163.html
BS. Talking about jumping to conclusion. This is Air France NOT British or American. If it was the Islamic Terrorist. They would be all over the air by now padding themselves in the back and admit they did it.
I was wondering before, but with the other stuff that's come out, I think terrorism is pretty unlikely. They're saying the plane came apart in stages, that there were no burn marks, and no other indication of a fire. So, it's not a bomb. There could be a sabotage of plane equipment so that it would break up, but that's getting a little incredible. As for the pitot tubes, it sounds like they are heated to avoid icing, but how hard is it for a heater to eventually fail? Things break sometimes.
