It depends what the Rockets plan to do with the pick. If they plan to trade it right away draft for talent if they draft for them selves then by all means draft for need. They always have and always will. A few examples would be Othella(although they eventually got Barkley), Clyde retires they draft Dickerson and Drew, you can even go back to the time when it was Akeem. Not to mention the last time they were in the lottery, remember Horry. He was the right player for the right time, he hit some big shots and fit in well chemistry wise. If we would have drafted for purely talent we wouldv'e got Baby Jordan and can we really be sure we would have won with Harold Minor.

Chris Monter is far from the #1 analyst...he had William Freaking Avery in the top 5 last year....and AJ Bramlett top 15.

    assuming we draft for need,

what kind of player do we draft? I think I can safely assume our guard spots are safe. Is our SF position weak? or do we Draft a PF since Barkley retired? Will KT get the starting Nod? Or do we draft a Center of a higher calliber and move Cato to the 4-spot?

    Anyone give me some thoughts?

Why just Kenyon Martin? If we end up with the 9 pick, that might be a plausible scenario... but there's a number of players coming out I'd probably take instead... like Swift. To be honest, I think Swift will be a better player than Martin, in the end, although Martin is more prepared right now.

dead on haven. Here's my comparison of the "big 3" power forwards.

Offense (Now): Hard to argue with Fizer. Martin and Swift would be tied in second

Offense (Future): Swift. Best size, low post moves, youngest, and is working on a jumper. 2nd is Martin, as he's taller, and I'd think Fizer will drop off as people "figure him out" and the wear and tear builds on him.

Defense (Now): Martin is superb. Swift is excellent, and isn't that far behind. Fizer is hopeless.

Defense (Future): I think it'll end in a tie with Martin and Swift, because Swift is an incredible shot blocker, and will only improve. Fizer still stays at the bottom.

Immediate Impact: Martin, followed by Fizer. Swift will be big time in 2 years, maybe sooner.

Lasting Impact: Swift. He's got all the tools, just has to polish them.

Best Fit for Rockets: Swift. The last thing we need is undersized big men, as we are likely to go with a 3 guard lineup in the future. Having 2 shot blockers (with Cato) down low will not hurt. Martin is also a good fit, but doesn't have the athleticism of Swift (though very athletic). Swift loves the Rockets, and hopefully the Rockets love him enough to make the move to get him.

    Just my thoughts.

Now, onto the main issue at hand at #9, if that went through....I'd take it down to Stevenson, and Olumide Oyededji. Big men like him are worth having. If the Rockets feel Stevenson has good defense, and will grow another inch or two so he can play the 3, we may draft him. Another scenario is to bring him along like Kobe....as a 6th man, and go with a Francis-Mobley-Anderson starting, and Stevenson backing up all 3 (he has good enough handles....and Mobley can also play the point as well as Moochie.

Stay away from: Courtney Alexander....he's too short to have a chance at SF, and I don't think his ceiling will reach much higher than it is currently...he'll be a solid 18 PPG type of player, if he's not a headcase.

Another option would be to draft Pryzbilla......maybe not.
