the sixers traded korver for giricek. giricek was shooting 35% from beyond the arch at the time of the trade. korver was shooting...35% . giricek was an ending contract while korver had 3 years left. it was a move to save money. money which helped them clear max cap space for that summer when they signed elton brand. that move was a no brainer. if you have a chance at max cap space by moving korver for another 6'7, 35% 3 point shooter, why not? giricek didn't work out there, and they needed someone who can spread the floor. now they've got a 6'7 42% 3 point shooter AND elton brand. well played, i say.
A very nice move for Philly,Toronto needs toughness in the frontcourt but they didn't get much for Kapono. They might miss his outside touch as well.
true. not only because of the injury ending his season, but the fact that they play much better when running a fast break style of offense rather than a post up half court game. they weren't able to land josh smith, which would've been a home run signing for a young team who loves to run. the second choice was brand who they thought would give them an option in the half court game and help diversify their offensive attack. mo cheeks got the ax for not being able to integrate brand into the offense. they either ran all the time and forgot about him, or they slowed down and forgot about the running game. still, at the time it was the right move, and it still has a good chance of working out under a great offensive coach (jordan) and hopefully a healthy season.
The one-season run that the Clippers had (led by Cassel and Brand) made me think Brand as a mobile big man. Isn't he? Can't he run as well? Also, Philly needs more shooters.
Kapono is a bum, when he's on the court you are basically a man down on defense, it's a virtual 5 on 4. He'd be a good fit on the Rockets since the team plays such good D, but I don't see many other teams who can take on that kind of liability.
People have been saying this for a while now. I think he is trying to maintain a high 3pt% so he can get another nice contract. If he shot the 3 ball more often his percentage would fall and people might realize there isn't much different between him and a guy like Eddie House who plays for minimum money. I would say Dwight and Big Ben have been better but, yes, he is a great rebounder. I think the problem with him, and i'm sure this is the reason he's bounced around, is that I don't think his defense and toughness overcome his poor offense. I don't think he has much of a positive impact on a game. I'd rather have a guy like Chuck Hayes, not as good of a rebounder but a better defender.
Makes sense for both teams. Toronto does need a banger. Incidentally, I wouldn't mind having the Rockets get their hands on Anthnoy Parker, who is a free agent from that team.
That's alot of money to pay for a guy that just does 1 thing. I'd just sign Steve Novak to do the same thing for 1/3 the price.
don't forget, we did the Juwan Howard for Mike James trade while the finals was still going on 2 years ago, I think it was after game 2 of the 2007 finals.
because he is so dam inconsistent and unclutch with his threes. like it pisses me off as a raptor fan to see him go 1 for 6 from three point land and most of them are good looks. i mean come on you are brought there to shoot threes and if you cant make'em consistently, wtf do we need you for
I think he suffers from Novak-itis. Kapono is a good shooter with a quick release but that's probably it. He can't play defense, and he can't do anything else other than camp out at the 3 pt line and take a shot. I don't think he's athletic enough to get separation from his man to launch those threes either, so his production declines dramatically when someone's guarding him. A lot of analysts already examined while the Raptors flatlined this season, and it basically boils down to the fact that the Raptors didn't get enough statistical production from their swing position. Kap-oh-no was probably a huge reason for that. As for the trade, Sixers definitely win that one. Sixers really need 3 pt shooters to complement Brand and Iguadala, while all the Raptors get is a nutcase. What they really needed was someone who could either command space down low or someone who could slash in the lane and draw double teams so their shooters could have the space they need.
It wasn't that he had too many 1-6 games, the problem with him was that when he was called upon to hit the shot in crunch time he would miss. Plus instead of taking mainly three's he tried to show that he has other aspects to his game......he didn't get that his role was to JUST shoot 3's and play the little D he knows how to play. He's a garbage time player.
