Very simple solution. Buy Rock Band 2. Borrow a Rock Band 1 disc from somebody. Import all (nearly) Rock Band 1 songs onto Rock Band 2. voila. There is virtually no difference in the games as far as gameplay.
^ did you do this yourself with your own RB and RB2 discs, or just know for a fact it can be done? If so, they will be pissed if we all do this I wonder if it works the same with PS3 and seXBOX versions... (RB ps3 to RB2 ps3, so on, etc.) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080715120819AA9qexz .
FYI, Gamestop is clearing their inventory for Rock Band 2 special edition. I think the instruments are wireless and the drums are made better. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/06/gamestop-starts-huge-guitar-hero-rock-band-sale.ars Orginal Price $190, Sale Price $95
Why would they be pissed? They're the ones who allowed the export. You have to purchase an export key on the playstation network for $5.00 in order to export the songs from Rock Band 1 to your console's hard drive (assuming you have a 360 or a PS3.)
I went ahead and bought the original Rock Band off from GameStop ($75 with shipping), with the idea that I'll just pick up the Rock Band 2 disc later.
I would not buy the Rock Band 1 bundle if I were you. The Rock Band 2 instruments are vastly improved, and all you need from Rock Band 1 is to borrow/rent the disk for export. Your best bang for your buck is to buy Rock Band 2 Bundle, rent Rock Band 1, export, and you're good.
