Your trade scenario makes no sense from the perspective of Memphis. They already have enough capspace for 2010 since Darko's contract ends around the same time as Tmacs. I'm not sure they would be willing to give up the number 2 draft pick to unload jaric's ugly contract.
Not even if that star player is let's say, Dwayne Wade? Unlikely, I agree. But they aren't THAT far off.
ok so that means use a #2 pick on a back up center? ...unless you prefer that we don't re-sign yao and you are looking to move away from him. i think we have a bigger weakness at the starting POINT guard (AB is not a point guard) and at the 30 mpg gaping hole that tmac left wide open. von wafer, brent barry, james white, and ron artest can't be the guys who are supposed to be our scoring/playmaking swingmen.

I dont like this year's draft class at all. I'm hoping any move we make that involves getting into it is not substantial (i.e Brian Cook for pick)
The gamble Dumars took on Darko cost him a Carmelo Anthony or Dwayne Wade. The draft is not an exact science and there is no sure thing. Memphis may start to build around Mayo and Gay. They may see more value in trying to get some of there bad contracts off the deck and attempt to make a splash for the 2010 free agency. Who knows.
probably not, but the Rockets do have an injury prone center probably entering his declining years, and no true backup other than the Chuckwagon who's more of a swiss army knife, so it's an illusion to say that the Rockets are especially strong at C when they're basically that year's broken bone away from not having one.
Can't imagine Memphis wanting anyone on the Rockets roster for the 2nd overall pick that Morey would give. Yao, Battier, Scola (and Artest, if signed) are worth more to the Rockets than a rebuilding Memphis team due to age. I also don't see Houston give up Yao for almost anything in the league (i.e. guys not named Lebron, Dwight, or Kobe). Some of the younger guys-- Brooks, Landry Lowry (and Wafer, if signed)-- have talent, but can't imagine a rebuilding team give up a 2nd overall pick for them. Beside, they already had Lowry once, no?
The pilfering of Memphis has started. Is it me, or has Memphis became our personal piggy bank for players? Francis Battier Lowery at this rate, we might even get a Gay - Mayo backcourt.
2009-10 Guaranteed contracts: Brooks, Lowry McGrady, Barry Battier, Cook Scola, Landry, Dorsey Yao, Hayes McGrady + max cash ($3M) FOR 2nd pick + Jaric + Darko + Buckner -salaries work -both Jaric and Buckner have two years remaining -Darko is expiring, was a bust signing, and is expected to leave for elsewhere Brooks, Lowry Jaric, Barry, Buckner Battier, Cook Scola, Landry, Dorsey Yao, Darko, Hayes Portland are also rumoured to be looking to trade up in the draft. Blazers hold 5 draft picks, 1st round: 24th, 2nd round: 33rd, 38th, 55th, 56th. Also in their possesion is a $2.912,823M TE. 2nd pick + Jaric to BLAZERS for Batum + Outlaw + Bayless/Rodriguez + 24, 33, 38, 55, 56 picks + max cash ($3M) Dorsey + Hayes to BLAZERS for TE + draft rights to Freeland + max cash ($3M) Brooks, Lowry, Bayless/Rodriguez (Artest), Batum, Barry, Buckner Battier, Outlaw, Cook Scola, Landry, (24th pick) Yao, Darko, Freeland Rockets now have the salary space to re-sign Artest or they could pursue a S&T involving Artest. The Blazers trade could involve multiple teams with so many assets now available to the Rockets they could easily dump/package Cook and/or Buckner in the process while still getting a starting calibre vet, perhaps even All Star level? So many follow up possibilities open up if they deal with the Blazers.
Do you think Memphis would let LA screw them again? Cause I sure hope not. Anyways that said I really would love to have Thabeet...we could have really used that size in the middle after Yao went down.
But the Grizzlies franchise is really, really, really hurting for money right now. BIG operating losses. Not to mention, you can NEVER have enough cap space. Not for 2010. (Not that all the free agents are going to move to Memphis.) But if we do throw in the 3 million max that a team can pay for a pick, it might help get a deal done. As an aside: Would the Rockets deal Scola (hurts me to even think it) and 3 million for the #2 and Darko, then send Darko's and Barry's expiring contracts and the #2 pick in exchange for Amare Stoudemire? "But," you say, "why not just deal Amare directly to the Grizz?" Answer: He won't re-sign there. "But," you say, "is Amare worth the cost, worth that much more than what Scola will command next year?" Answer: I don't know. I prefer the idea of dealing Tracy away.
So far Morey's made magic from garbage picks, so a #2 (unlikely as it is) would make him an even more dangerous player. I wouldn't be surprised if he took the #2 and packaged it off for a perfect veteran fit. (Kevin Martin/Hawes?) Plus this. Yes please.
So basically the Rockets get rid of TMac and a late 1st round pick in return for the #2 pick, a backup center with size, and Adriana Lima. Get r' done, Morey!
