First of all, this is not an accurate account for a certain people and I understand racism comes from all corners of the society. I just want to share my personal experience with y'all and I don't intend to label a certain whole race. Second of all, money talks in America. Usually the more money you spend, the better treatment you get, no matter who your server is. That applies to me, too. However, when I went to some basic service agencies like post office or public transportation service, the most "overt" discrimination came consistently from, ironically, some black people. Example 1: I was waiting for the bus at the bus stop one day, the bus just passed by without stopping, although I and another gentleman (we the same race) were waving hard toward it. The driver finally stopped and we ran up into it. I just couldn't help but complaining to the driver (a black lady) why she didn't stop with people waiting at the stop. She became irritated and called the police to come by to "solve the dispute". I told her that she was wasting people's time by idling there for so long(over 30 minutes!) and requested her to open the door to let me off to take another bus. She "REFUSED MY REQUEST AND LET SEVERAL BLACK PEOPLE OFF THE BUS". Finally the policeman (who happened to be hispanic) came and said to me don't argue with her just complain to her company. Example 2. The other day I was going to the post office(unfortunately the famous USPS) to send out something. It's near closing time during the day and the black postman asked everybody what they needed, calm and cool. When it's my turn his voice pitch increased significantly when he told me to tape my evelope first and the tape is right there, like he was not there to serve me but boss me around. But the tape was not there after I ask two other postmen! I know USPS's service generally sucks and they treat people not that nice, but the black guy's attitude to me was especially stinky. There are numerous other occasions that proved my suspicion. Of course I met a lot of nice, fun black folks that belong to a good group of people, but the worst treatment came from some black people, too. Some of them seemed to take for granted they "deserve" something rather than "earn" it. Is it that they take advantage of the civil rights movement and go to the other extreme? The page of the dark history of racism in America has turned(???) and some of the black people need to stop treating people the way they were treated before. A black leader is needed to change the culture of the black community to make them value hard working, family and education. But that's a little too far for this discussion. So much for my ranting. I am wondering if it's because there are disproportionally too many black folks working in that kind of places. But there are other races in the same working places, too. It doesn't make any sense that black people should have that kind of attitude. How come the media only cover how black people have been mistreated and do not say anything about black discrimination against other races? I especially welcome the comments from some African American posters. By the way, I'm yellow.
Seriously. Why don't you start a thread complaining about how you didn't get a smile with your Big Mac? Congrats. You found two people in ****ty moods. They happened to be black. I'm sure their crappy jobs where they deal with douchebags all day(some of whom think they are superior human beings due to their financial status) has nothing to do with it.
So you are claiming blacks are the most racist people in America, because 1) a black lady bus driver let blacks off first, and 2) the black postman raised his voice to you only. Hahaha, talking about sensitive people. I really like black folks because they keep it real.
How come whenever I go to Chinese restaurants or Chinese-owned dry cleaners, a Chinese worker always answers "Yes!" to every single question I ask no matter what the question is even though they speak good English? I could be at a restaurant and ask, "Do you have Dr. Pepper?" to which they will reply, "Yes, yes, yes!" I could then immediately ask that same person, "Do you not have Dr. Pepper?" and they will answer, "Yes, yes, yes!" I'm pretty sure I could ask something like, "Is there dog food in that dish?" and they'd say, "Yes, yes, yes!" So much for my ranting...
So a couple of bad experiences with cranky public employees is determinative of a race and anyone who disagrees is in denial?
I think you might be jumping the gun or being a bit knee-jerk if these are your evidence for thinkng you are being treated less for your race. I am not saying racism from blacks towards asians doesn't exist - just seems these are a bit weak in terms of examples. Of course, no one stands in your shoes...but generally speaking, if you can't convince people that you are experiencing racism probably might want to consider if you are being a bit judgmental yourself. You have to ask yourself, did you provoke the person in anyway? When you spoke to the bus driver - you complained right? That person might respond the same way to people who criticize her - which is to get defensive. As for the postal worker, did you ask your question in a demanding way? If they perceived a lack of respect, again, hostility can come out. Both of these folks are in gov't jobs. There's two things about people in gov't jobs. One, their job is pretty secure - it's hard to fire them, so they don't have to be miss mary poppins to people. Secondly, they often deal with a lot of people who take their frustrations out on them undeservedly. Over time, this can have a significant impact - usually making people quick to be sour on whomever they see as attacking them. Often times, a little kindness and patience can go a long way. Remember, they have the same fears about people being racist to them and may assume you are looking down on them because of their race. In other words, choose your battles wisely. You don't need to fight them with bus drivers and postal workers. That usually is a waste of time and energy. Save it for when there's something really at stake.
I agree..you've just had some bad experiences...racism exists unfortunately and always will, i just don't think those two examples justifies that blacks are the most racist people in america... I am not black btw, im persian just incase it sounds like i am being biased Chilcutt
How come when ever I leave an open drink in the fridge, my Asian coworkers always play joke and put pee pee in my coke?
I have noticed that whenever I say "thank you" to some black people they never say "you're welcome." I just get a dismissive look. That really pisses me off and it seems like only black people have done it to me. Anyone care to explain why or am I overanalyzing things?
The dark page of racism has turned in America because the days when some idiot would start a thread, based on his two anecdotal experiences with a bus driver and a postman, calling blacks the most racist people in America and suggesting that they don't value hard work, family, or education are just long gone. Thank goodness there are no morons like that running around anymore.
You might be right. The examples I provided might not be sufficient enough to support my conclusion. I complained to the bus driver because how could she missed two huge living beings under the bright day light? I am pretty sure I did not provoke the postman, though. He initiated the conversation. I did notice you need to show more courtesy than usual to some black persons. But I don't understand why I am intentionally put down by some of them in most occasions if so. I don't feel as strong as to other kind of people. I've had very nice black coworkers in my previous company. I really wish there is something wrong with parts of my brain when I feel generally the lousy service is usually from some black people. If my feel is reality, I'm not afraid and I despise those kind of people.
