Does anyone have a bank that does free coin counting with a coin star type machine for members?

I have a huge amount of change and need to dump it. If you know of a bank I am going to become a member and start dumping.

There is no charge at our Wells Fargo bank in Minnesota. I would assume their Texas banks provide the same service.

i think most places do charge. i bought coin rolls at office depot and my husband rolled them all up with the coins he had been collecting and it was several hundreds of dollars.

Wow. Did he ever turn them in? I have heard of banks that do not charge. It is just a service they provide and does not cost much because the machines automatically count and fillup pre marked bags that just go back.

    What part of town?

I worked as a teller at Texas Bay Area Credit Union and they did not charge fees. I'm pretty sure they still don't.

he turned them into the bank, all rolled up. those coin star things in the grocery store, i hear charge like 20% or something ridiculous. the bank didn't charge after you rolled it up.

i didn't really research it tho, he did so i'm not real sure about all this. i just know what he ended up doing.

Why buy coin rolls? Banks will give them to you if you ask for them.

I really don't see why all banks don't have automatic coin counting machines to use for customer deposits.

i dunno, like i said, i wasn't the one researching it....but i think a bag of the paper rolls were like 75 cents so it wasn't bad.

They aren't expensive, but you'll know in the future if you ever need them again. Banks generally require you to pre-count and roll your coins to deposit them. They have you write your account number on the rolls, so I assume they have some sort of verification process. I need to ask my Grandma what they do. I assume they use a coin counting machine somewhere.

I have about 80-100 lbs. of coins (I actually weighed them about 5 years ago and they were at around 75 pounds and I know I've added to it since then). I think I'm just going to take them to a coinstar machine a Kroger or something and get credit for an Amazon.com purchase or something. I always buy things off of Amazon, so what the heck.

This is why I try not to use cash anymore for any purchase... :D

I don't have a problem with rolling coins, it is just they make you write your account number on the rolls. I go to banks to get rolls of coins to check for coins I need to fill coin collecting books and almost every roll has an account number written on it. Not joking. They do not take care of your info.

Damn, why do you guys have so many coins laying around? I guess I don't use cash that much anymore so it's not an issue.

Apparently not all Wells Fargo branches carry them. I took some coins in to a new branch near where I live, and they said I had to go to the older, further away branch to use one of those machines.

yeah, i think that's what my husband did. he just sat there while watching tv rolling these things up for what seemed like weeks. i'm pretty sure he wrote the acct number on each too. he'd been collecting for like 7 yrs or something.

i made him wash his hands immediately after doing that. that stuff turns your hands black and it stinks!!!!! soooooo dirty! it was really pretty gross.

Houston Federal Credit Union has the machine.

Free for members for that particular location. 5% for a member from a different branch. 10% for a non member.

Most of my coins are from years ago. Over the past 5-6 years or so, I've probably used my credit card for 98% of purchases. I honestly just hate carrying change around with me, so I would always get change and just leave it on my dresser... and the pile would grow.

That is going to take a year to put into a coinstar machine... That's probably 800-1000 dollars in change.
