Actually, Shaq had far superior post moves, and a nice, soft touch around the rim. Like I said, the two players have many similarities, but saying that Dwight is "just like Shaq" is downplaying Shaq's dominance in his younger days. And saying size is the only thing separating Dwight from Shaq is like saying the only thing separating Kevin Love and Yao is height. Both are true statements that have far bigger implications than initially suggested.
You need to watch Shaq play in his younger days if you think this seriously. I'm sick of kids saying stupid stuff like Dwight = Shaq. What's freakin' next? Derrick Rose > Magic Johnson?
Shaq just seems like a goof ball to me. Yes he has an ego, but I can't take his "insults" that seriously. It's more about pumping himself up than putting the other guy down.
Shaq says this stuff to stay relevant. I used to think he just said things that were on his mind at that second but now I'm not so sure it isn't more calculated. I think he says things he doesn't even mean just because he likes to rivalry and attention. What I find funny is his instant admiration and respect for Kobe. I guess the article was on to something if he is trying to go back to LA.
When all the NBA players are together at any event and Shaq's there, they all buddy up with him. So he doesnt see loss of respect up close anyways.
You basing this on words by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ????!?!?!?! I think Kareem is great I think Kareem is on of the all time greats BUT ask any of the older folx KAREEM WAS THE BIGGEST DOUCHE IN THE LEAGUE The guy was a MAJOR *SSHOLE through out his career. He is so much of a *sshole. . it is the reason he cannot BUY HIS WAY INTO A COACHING JOB TODAY!!!! and . . HE HAS BEEN TRYING!!! No I lost no respect for Shaq .. . by far one of my favorite players 1. Great Player 2. Great Person [His work with the police/sheriffs and went on to get his Master's Degree] 3. Great Quote Rocket River Kareem Abdul-JaBLUNT???
Dwight plays nothing like Shaq. Shaq had very good footwork and agility for a man of his size and was amazingly coordinated. He also had a surprisingly soft touch on his jump hooks. Dwight just looks ridiculous in the post.
LOL, is that what I need to do? I'm quite sure I saw Shaq play plenty in his prime, and not just YouTube clips. I'm also quite sure that a YOF most likely DID NOT see Shaq play ANY in his prime.
Of course, let's bring Yao and/or his fans into this discussion any way possible. Last time I checked, no one (not even YOFs) claimed that Yao could hold a candle to prime Shaq. While we're at this lovely little activity of bringing up irrelevant topics, how about that Cairo speech by Obama? Or the re-emerging oil prices? Hey, this is a bit late, but any thoughts on the American Idol finale?
Shaq won me over a long time ago via his ardent respect for Hakeem. While I think Hakeem is/was the better center, Shaq broke the mold for a player his size with his agility, his hands, and that soft shooting touch around the basket, as a couple of others have pointed out. Lost respect? No way. The guy produced when it mattered. Just check out those rings, baby.
