Dwight should watch Yao sit on his ass, because that is what he will be doing next year when the Rockets win a title...

What is asking too much from Yao Ming? I am starting to question that? Are we really asking way too much from our big man? He has been here since 2002 folks. He is heading on his 8th (eight season). Not only is heading on to his eighth season we are most likely expected to pay a max contract for this big fella. What he is still trying to learn as of today has taken Dwight Howard in Six. Not only that, Dwight Howard is only 23-24 which is four to five years younger than Yao. Shaq is 37 folks. He's still kicking and still one of the scariest guys to run into the paint. When Shaq was Yao's age you can bet your darn skippy there wasn't another center out there who could even get close to 20pts and 14rb against him. Even Hakeem had to pass the torch at that age. Yao should be at the prime of his game. That 37 yr old center should be passing the torch on to Yao and at this point and time Yao should be the scariest guy to run into the paint. That isn't too much to be expected. There should be no question about fronting him. There shouldn't even be a debate whether a pick and roll can take him out. There should absolutely be no way to take the big man out of the game and not make him an equation. Yes Yao is still a good Center. I am sure no one on this board will dare say he isn't a good Center. Right now though Dwight is taking the spot as the Better Center. If he is not being that scoring threat he's your rebounding threat and clearing that paint. He's that big defensive presence that you want the big man to be. Is that asking too much from Yao to be? Is it too much to ask our big man to not get fronted so easily. To Catch the ball with ease. There is a reason why people don't clear the way when he's about to dunk. It's not the ref's descriminating calls on Yao nor is it the superstardom factor as I believe that article Superweapon Yao decided to post. It is the fact he doesn't strike fear in those people's eyes. He isn't that Giant Freight train that is going to collide into you and man oh mighty will it hurt. If an opposing player which has athletic leaping capabilities it doesn't seem like they are too afraid of taking it to the rim on Yao. There is the question of what happens when a super powerful force collides into an imovable object. Dwight has become that imovable object. When those super forces come down they are not going to just run up there and try to slam one home because there is that object that will block you and hurt you if you are going to try and get anywhere close to his viscinity. That isn't too much to be asking of a bigman. In fact that is what should be common or expected in a big man, especially one where we are going to strap down for a huge and long contract for years to come. I don't think it is too much for anyone to ask from a guy like yao who should be at the prime of his career to be healthy and basically take down a 37 yr old man who has lost his speed and is on his way out. Dwight owns the Center show now folks.

Well uhm Yao has to be healthy for that.. or maybe Yao will be on his butt again watching the rest of his team mates stretch it out to a game seven like he did this year. Yao still can't get passed the Lakers. We've been saying this is our year for along time now and quite frankly even this past season watching the Rockets I was not convinced we were even close to title ready. Hoping is one thing but then reality clicks in Yao gets injured again and are still being sent home early. Dwight, however has just beaten the Cavs who besides a healthy Celtics were picked to win the East. Heck Dwight has also beaten the Celtics in the playoffs who even without Garnett in there was still a very strong team. We can say all the things we want but it isn't Dwight that has to prove anything now. It is Yao. It is up to Yao to show the world that the lakers can throw that fronting defence and he won't be taken out. He needs to show that a pick and roll team like the jazz with a good power forward like boozer and strong bench won't take him out. He needs to prove that he is able to stay healthy through out a season or at least during the playoffs. If not then maybe it will be again like this year "Yao sittin on his ass" and if Dwight Howard is eliminated then both can watch each other "sit on their ass". As of right now though until proven other wise it will "Yao sitting on his ass" while Dwight goes deep into the playoffs.

Jon barry not lethal at the three? uhm dude...... he was probably our most lethal three point threat the first year 2004-2005 at 45% . Actually, if there was any year that I believed we could have won the ring during the tmac Yao era it was that year. Wesley that year was also at 38%. If it wasn't for the refs just screwing us over I honestly believe we had a very very strong chance at the title. However a few bad calls by the refs and I guess as we all know that series was rigged and after that it all just went down hill. I think Van Gundy said a few harsh words and I think Stern made it difficult for him after that. Everyone's numbers just fell after that season and we haven't been able to get the role players like we did that year until now. I believe Jeff Van Gundy knew his talent.. I just never understood the everyone else just standing around all the time while Tmac and Yao did everything. Ahh well.... This is why I am very impressed with guys like Phil Jackson and Greg Pop. They both use their stars to their full potential as in it is still a two man game or a three man game, yet every role player isn't just sitting around. Just my opinion though.

Howard dominated the whole 6th game against Cavs. ,but definately not the whole series. As a matter of fact, Lewis and Turkoglu contributed more to the other 3 wins, while Howard can only sit on the bench because of the foul trouble.

Yao's personality decides that he can't be a beast like Howard by demanding the damned ball so hard. To me, he is more of a leader on a spiritual level as he always choose to explode in silence instead of growling and abusing.

On this note, I sincerely hope that lightening up by 15 lbs will help Yao stay injury free. If I'm not mistaken, most of his injuries (foot, knee, upper shin/knee) was the result of bodily contract. The only exception that I can think of is when his toe got infected. Not to go on a tangent, but all the more reason why I agreed whole-heartedly with the not-so-facetious-thread that "YAO SHOULD WEAR KNEE PADS." Heck, I'd have him wearing full length crash pads:

    and
    knee pads

Small price for insurance against another season lost to injury imho

I respect your opinion NY but why do so many people including yourself seem so resigned to believe that he CAN'T be a beast (like Howard per se) b/c it's "not in his personality?"

I guess the question is whether you believe that we have EVER seen him play beastly? imho, from history, the answer is YES. I have seen him play beastly... which is why I don't understand why he can't be consistently beastly.

b/c yes, DH is definitely a beast.

If Yao keeps heathy, he is the same good as HoWard, because they have their own advantages in different aspects.

Otherwise, Howard is a little better than Yao.Though I don't like to say so, I have to.

Because he has been in the league for 7 years already.

Gasol and Dirk has shown they can play beastly once in awhile but overall they are finesse players which is what Yao is. I have never heard of a finesse player in the NBA (especially after 7 years being in the league) becoming a physical beast.

This is probably because JVG isn't here anymore. Unlike JVG who wants his players to play his way, Adelman wants his players to show their true colors and play their own style. Since its not in Yao Ming's personality to be beastly, then he won't be beastly, because no one is getting in his face KG style.

Anybody who thinks DH isn't the best center in the L is nuts, Yao Ming hasn't even completed a single season for the 3 years, how can he be better than a 24 year old who has more 20-20 games in one season than Yao has his whole career?

I wonder how the Magic would have done with Yao on that team instead of Howard and vice versa. I honestly have no idea how this would play out. My guess is that the Magic would still have made it to the finals with Yao. Since the Rockets took the Lakers to 7 without Yao, it's probably not fare to compare how they would have done with Howard, but I think they would have beat the Lakers and Denver.

    the tide is turning...

if i had to start a franchise from scratch and had to choose between yao and dwight...

i'd have to pick dwight now... especially since he worked on his FTs!!

Yao would have been out so it is a moot point.Yao is damaged goods at this point. I don't think there is a single GM that would pick Yao over dwight.
