well you might as well call me t-mac's long lost brother with all the injuries i have. this mri was for my right elbow which i know has multiple bone spurs in it. i had a mri done on it a couple years ago but the doctor convinced me not to have surgery to get them removed. one of the bone spurs was wrapping around a nerve and another was bumping into the radial head on my right elbow. this time around it has just become too bothersome (numbness, tingling, and sometimes difficulty using my right hand) and i also developed some sort of issue with the area around the bursa in my elbow. i have also had an xray and the doc said he saw loose bodies aka bone fragments in my elbow.

to add on to my elbow issues i have had shoulder issues pop up recently lol. it is either bone spurs or loose cartilage or something. it's something that i know i will need surgery on to get it fixed...which sucks. i am pretty sure all of this is a result of all the bowling i used to do if you were wondering how i developed this problems.

thanks for the info. i am still going to call them and figure out why i was given so much for a 20 minute open mri. i was already pretty dopey 30 minutes after i had the xanax and i would have been fine for the mri like that. the male nurse came in to give me the demerol shot and i could hardly figure out what he wanted me to do lol. he had to tell me a couple times that he couldn't give me the shot in my arm because it would burn bad. i wasn't even sure why i needed it then but i was in another world so i just went along with it.

also, the only major side effect other than my extreme drowsiness and heavy sleep was the inability to talk coherently. it felt as if i was drunker than i had ever been in my life. i was trying to talk and say the right words but they just wouldn't come out right. the only thing i could really say was that i couldn't say the words i wanted to say. a strange feeling to say the least. also, i did have some pretty trippy dreams/nightmares lol. other than that i have no clue if my breathing was shallow or not. i don't really remember anyone checking my breathing or telling my gf to watch to make sure my breathing was ok.

    Nope, just a Pharm D. :)

Well, good thing you're okay now. A lot of the drugs in the same class as Xanax, even though it's not really common for this particular drug. Lexicomp lists hallucinations as 1-10%, but I'd think it would be increased with a 2.5mg dose. You're probably also naive to these types of drugs, so that's a pretty large dose for you.

I'm a nurse and have administered both at the same time before. I'm sure by now you already have your answer, but just wanted to say that since you've never taken demerol before it'll have a more obvious effect on you then say for someone who is use to it. I've seen worse combinations before.

It's insane how doctors just order things like that. I've seen some crazy orders before and the funny thing is they justify a patient's negative reaction by saying "they're allergic to the medication" when in fact they don't take the time to really look at what all else the patient is taking. Totally ridiculous.

I'm extremely claustrophobic as well, but I just dropped a Xani and a couple of beers, my brother drove me there, and it was a breeze. The sounds sucked, and since it was for my neck due to a severe car wreck, they kept asking me not to swallow (mom joke here) while they were scanning, so it made me swallow even more. (gay joke here)

I would rather not have to do it again, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I find it funny that a drug like xanax is legal but we don't have medical mar1juana. I can actually function on weed, but xanax, not so much.

so here is a little update on things since i need to get another MRI on my shoulder...just call me t-mac. anyhow i talked to the paramedic at the MRI place and it was the same one who gave me the drugs before and i told him what happened and he kind of chuckled. so i told him that i didn't think it was funny and that it felt like it was dangerous to me. so he ends up telling me i likely was out of it for that long because i "reached my pain threshold" and basically passed out. i was like . so then i go on talking about exactly what happened and he says the drugs only stay in your system for 4 hours and that i was out of it because i likely had sleep depravation before the MRI . i mean seriously...come on...can this guy not think of a better excuse? he was adamant that it could not have been the drugs that caused that kind of reaction.

and i ended up finding out i was giving 1 mg of xanax and 100 mg of demerol and 25 mg of some drug to help with the nausea from demerol.

Not going to read the entire thread before posting but to the OP, you shouldn't have acted like such a lil' beeyatch for the MRI and they wouldn't have "doped" you up so thoroughly. That said, just shut up and enjoy the ride.

    kidding but seriously, enjoy it
