I saw somebody post that on another thread, does anyone have any info. Or pics. I would love to see him het to about 240. If he does that all he has to do is work on post moves and he will be a star hopefully.

It has only been two months since the end of the season, so I do not think EG has bulked up that much. That might be his goal for the summer though.

That's what I was thinking. There's only one way he could have gained 30 pounds of muscle in less than two months ... steroids. Maybe he's planning on playing baseball.

    NOT TRUE.

i - PERSONALLY - have put on 22 pounds in a 3 week span before...with no steroid use. it's all a matter of changing your diet.

creatine + high, high, high doses of protein + lowering carb intake + eating 6 times a day + working out 4 to 5 times/week = 22 pounds in 3 weeks.

    That doesn't sound too healthy.

Even if that is what Griffin is doing, that can't be good for a basketball player. I could understand if you're a body builder but not if you're in the NBA. Adding that much weight in that short period of time has to also create stress on your heart, which also can't be good for a player that is running up and down the court as much as Griffin does. It would also effect his flexability.

    verse has a point.

Even an additional 15 lbs on Eddie's frame, which is very possible in 2 months or so, makes a big difference. And, Eddie's also at the age where he should start naturally 'filling out' a little.

Case in point, Jared Jeffries. Reports are that he looks considerably bigger, but according to his weigh-in he's only gained 10-15 lbs.

I usually don't question guys under 23 making a substantial gain in weight, it's just the 30 year olds that make me suspicious.

Creats are widely used by professional as well as amateur athletes. They are considered a lesser risk than anabolics. Creats are effective at putting on muscle mass in a very short period of time. Look at pictures of Jared Jefferies during the NCAA's and recently.

They also cause kidney damage. Not to mention an insane amount of stretch marks.

How does lowering carbs help you gain weight? I know I do the Adkins thing a couple times a year (before vacations, etc) where I take in no carbs and only eat meats for 2-3 weeks and lose 12-20 pounds?
No saying it's not true just seems odd that you would cut down on carbs to gain weight?
Oh well whatever works for you!
ANd I would love to see Griff with an extra 20-30 healthy pounds on him.

Why all the speculation. The community is now international in its scope and reach. EG is not in hiding, we should be able to track him down and measure his progress. Anybody where he is? Summer league starts soon.

    TexasG,

i understand your concerns, but allow me to explain a little further. first, you do have to look at a person's body frame. my frame and eddie's are VERY similar. of course, i'm shorter than eddie (6'4.5"), but the frame is damn near exact. guys with frames like ours can put on a lot of weight and support it well.

second, i have a history of heart "difficulties". in fact, three years ago, i was a close to having a pacemaker. that said, my doctor had no problem with me putting on weight quickly. in fact, he had me put on 30# in about a three week period before (in the hospital for 2 weeks...lost a lot of weight...went from 155# to 185# in roughly 3 weeks). my point is that the heart CAN handle it. in fact, he'll feel even healthier because he'll probably be closer to his natural weight.

third, your flexibility is not affected ONE IOTA by putting on weight. that's a myth athletes had until the late 80s. we now know that - for example - doing low rep, high weight workouts will pack on mass and reduce flexibility. doing high rep (or pyramid), mid-weight workouts allows an athlete to pack on lean muscle mass and maintain flexibility. personally, my vertical INCREASED with the extra weight, because it was extra muscle.

I would not mind if Eddie put on 20-30lbs of muscle. He will be OK at his age. It is not like he put a 25lb weight on his back and started playing hoops. If he gained weight, he did it gradually, he will be ok. He is not Shawn Kemp! :)

    on a side note:

I have lost 15lbs over the last two weeks. from 249lbs to 234. I am trying to get down to 200lbs.

    1. I changed my diet and cut out fast food (still eat subway or salads) and junk food. I eat much more vegtables and cut out high fat (red meat).

    2. I am exercising more. I swim at least 4 times a week and play basketball once a week.

    GO ME!!! :D

    4chuckie,

let's say you're a guy with a very low body fat %...like close to 2%. any increase in calorie intake is going to cause you to gain weight. doesn't matter if it's carbs, proteins, or whatever. but...

what is your goal? to gain weight, or to gain weight via muscle? understand that it is protein that builds muscle not carbs. carbs are burned quickly (essentially an energy source), but can also turn into fat if not burned. so why intake so many carbs? intake the protein because protein CANNOT turn into sugar/fat.

so, why cut down carbs to gain weight? because you're increasing the overall calorie intake via protein, since you want to add lean muscle mass.

that said, it is important to still intake carbs and fat, just regulate the amount that you eat. those are burned first when you work out, anyway. and if you don't have ANY of them, you start to burn muscle (which obviously isn't good). so, if you want to gain weight quickly (my personal experience), cut down on the whoppers and pastas to, say, once or twice a day. then increase you proteins as much as possible. i was doing roughly 145-150 g of protein a day at 170-195 pounds. that's a hell of a lot of protein, but my body needed it to build muscle.

you'll know when you've exceeded the protein intake threshold...you'll be pissing clear as a river. i must stress again, however, much of this depends on your personal body type and i strongly advise talking to (at the VERY least) a GNC specialist or a personal trainer (with a similar body frame as yours) before starting a program and spending $100-300 per month on supplements, etc.

    (edit)

as for griff...if he adds 30 pounds in a short period of time he BETTER JOIN A SUMMER LEAGUE! that 30 pounds of muscle will alter his shot without doubt, and it'll take a few weeks before he gets used to the extra strength.

but once he does... ... whoa nelly!

    WTG Wink3Cat5!

I hope you realize that while you are seeing great results right now, you won't be able to continue at that pace. If you can maintain/continue a pace of 1-3 lbs lost / week, that would be ideal. Expect to see some fluctuations in your weight just due to water gain/loss as well, but don't let these discourage you. If you continue your program, you will eventually get to your goal.

    Good luck!!!

losing more than 1 pound per week is extremely unhealthy and many times is just muscle mass deteriorating. Trust me, I have done a LOT of work in this area.
