Sugar Land is the best and most safest suburb in Houston, I suggest you move there... it's almost like heaven in Houston... most of the other suburbs are hell... you're likely to get shot anything east of Katy.
Well, I do have some stones. Still, you're making it out to be much worse than it is. In 6 years living in the Third Ward, I've had no trouble with any kind of criminal element (except one time I parked in Midtown, which obviously doesn't count). I had more trouble living in Westchase out near Gessner, and in Woodgate on the northside where I grew up. Anyway, the OP is thinking about the 'burbs. I'd never live out there again, but if that's his cup of tea, then talking about the Third Ward probably isn't helpful.
Pearland is a nice up and coming suburb. Try the Silverlake area, you'll have everything you need there.
Stay away from Kingwood. The crime has gotten totally out of hand. Yesterday, I saw a lady driving an SUV run a yellow light at Kingwood Drive and Lake Houston. It was HARDCORE.
not to mention the hooligans that constantly put soap in the fountain its like gang warefare out there
you guys did it all wrong in threads like this. yall suck. i was asleep, so i couldnt do it. you were suppose say Neighborhood X is supposed to be nice this time of year.
Also, stay FAR FAR away from Jersey Village. I wont get into specifics, but let's just say you want to avoid any OCP entanglements... Kam know's what I'm talking about.
If I was young, kidless and single I would personally want to live inside the loop still. The burbs are for people who cant have single, kidless, young fun. Driving to work is going to be a B regardless.
I grew up adjacent to Third Ward in the East End (other side of 45, near Wayside) and similarly think people overstate the danger. Don't be fooled, it's there. But all you need is sense about where to go and when to go there. You will reap the rewards of cheap, inside-the-loop housing, fantastic Mexican food, and genuine people.
Neighborhood X sounds nice, thank you. Is it next to third ward? Thanks for the Idea guys, i'll look them up. I dont mind living in the city but the burbs usually have better neighborhoods. I'm more than likely going to stay in my first place for 6 months or a year til I learn the area and find what fits me best. Just not wanting to get into a contract for 6 months or a year somplace i'll get raped every other day (unless she's hot)
EXACTLY LOL I used to stay...well not really, spend the night a lot over at 2nd ward. Near Harrisburg/Lockwood area and of those 10 years of being around that area, i only saw 1 fight and a couple of times when the cops were called LOL. So I'm used to the "ghetto" plus the taquitos at the taco trucks are the freakin bomb!! haha anyhoo, i know what you mean by not wanting to be anywhere shady. So here are the options. No matter what, you're gonna be driving a crap load. Deer Park, Pearland (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED), Clear Lake area, Memorial/Galleria area, Sugar Land, Humble, Spring/Cypress. I personally like the South side of Houston more than the North. So I say, Deer Park, Pearland, Clear Lake, Fairmont/Beltway 8 area are nice =D
This is plain and simple imo. If you're single, have a gf, or are married but with no children, I would move inside the loop. Anywhere you go, you will be close to all the good nightspots, not to mention good restaurants, and good places to spend an evening out. If you DO have kids, or are planning to fairly soon, I would move either to Sugarland, Memorial, Bellaire, or The Woodlands. Sugar Land and The Woodlands are far from everything, but within the communities, they are very safe, and very classy and well planned.
Does my "rookie" status by my name ever change???? i tried posting a thread the other day and it wouldn't let me
bingo-bango... ITL all the way. seriously, if you dont have any kids and aren't tied down i can't for the life of me figure out why you'd want to live out in the burbs. look at the heights, upper kirby/shepherd, memorial park, west u/rice village, montrose, galleria, midtown, or washinton ave. areas.
