I am not giving HIM a hard time. I just don't think kids need to be playing T-BALL tournaments and playoffs when they are 5-7 years old or have "all-star" teams at that age.
I think kids 5-7 years old are too young to have to learn "life's lessons" (as you put it). I think that at least some kids that age will feel unnecessary pressure to win and play well in these "playoff" games. As I said, I think it's great for kids to get up and out of the house and participate in physical activity. To that extent, rather than having "all-star" games for a few, why not simply extend the season for all?
My 10 year old son should make it to his 4th all star team. The tournament starts July 1st. After 2 straight second place finishes, we need to break through.
Congratulations too all Little League Baseball Kids & Parents! Competitive baseball is a great thing. The earlier these kids learn to want to be the best, the better of they will be. Life is competitive. Work hard, Play hard. T-Ball is probably the funnest time of the kids baseball experience. It has definitely been mine and my son's. We won District 15 Championship that year. That was a exciting season that he'll remember forever. We were the 2nd seeded team that year, that was beaten by the 1st place team twice in the regular season and had to play the first seeded team right off the bat in the playoffs, which beat us again sending us into the losers bracket. We worked our way out of the losers bracket to face this team again in the Championship game. This was a double elimination tournament, we had to beat the team that had already beaten us 3 times in a row, twice! They thought the had our number and we beat them the first game. One more win away but could we do it? They were beating us by 10 runs going into the next to the last inning, but we had last bat. At that time the last inning opens up(no 5 run rule), We sat them down 1,2,3! They still had us by 10, but our kids never gave up. Every kid did his part and that's how true teams pull together. We scored 11 to take the Championship away from the team that beaten us all year. This is a lesson my son carries with him to every game, "Never Give UP!" Proud daddy talking here, but we've never had a losing season yet. We've taken 1st the past two season's and District starts again this weekend. I doubt we bring home another District Championship, but you never quit until the game is over, then you walk across the field shake the other players hand and tell them "Good Game", knowing you left it all on the field. For us All-Stars don't Start until you reach Pee-Wee, which my son played machine pitch this year. But next year? Work Hard, Play Hard! Good luck DD and to all baseball players!
