he also didn't have a hedo, a rashard, a jameer who was on his way to an all-star selection, and one of the best benches in the L. tracy's best player during those years was a very young mike miller. his best center was shawn kemp.
aaron mckie was the 6th man of the year (tmac had jacque vaughn or andrew declerq?) deke was DPOY (shawn kemp/declerq/steven hunter were orlando's beasts back then) and he had larry brown, who is basically a winner everywhere he went outside of NY. be realistic tinman. lebron is the ONLY player who can take any group of garbage past the first round.
Miller was with him 2 years. Tmacs team was Armstrong Tmac Giriceck Juwan Howard Drew Gooden IR: Grant Hill Championship caliber team right?
That was the year he went against the pistons. I believe it was Tyron Lue, Reese Gaines, Boogans, Donell Harvey and Grant Hill and Deshawn Stevenson on the injured list. Just to show you, He nearly outscored his team in Game 2 at the palace. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/87XDAM-lK-Q&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/87XDAM-lK-Q&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Iverson got his team to the Finals with a weak minded offensive team. Let's face it, offensively his team was no better than LeBron James's 2007 Cavs team on offense. Defense, 76ers were better for sure. Let's face it, Tracy McGrady can't even get out of the 1st round despite his team being up 3-1, and despite having one of the best big men in this ERA on his side. Tracy McGrady is just a loser. But, but ,but Tracy had scoring titles...But but but Tracy had scrub teammates, give him Iverson's teammates and he'll take over the world!
i think Kobe's 2006 series vs. PHX is VERY similar to Tmacs series against DET. they were able to overachieve with scrubs to get the 3-1 lead, but ultimately lost to a BETTER team. in a case where the clearly inferior team gets a 3-1 lead and then loses, these two cases being the key examples, why is this considered a CHOKE? these teams were SUPPOSED to lose. eventually the better talent catches up.
adding on to this, this is the whole idea of moving from first round 5 game series to a 7 game series. the league wanted better teams to have a better chance of winning, because clearly, the worse team can get to 3 wins first sometimes but in a 7 game series, the better team is more likely to win out. a choke to me would be 2004 lakers losing in 5 or the 1994 sonics losing in 5 (thank god for this!!)
Didn't Iverson have the piss easiest weak conference to get through in that period? Wasn't the year he went through circa when Jamal Magloire the Allstar? I'm not going to defend T-mac but comparing him to other teams isn't looking at the opponent. I'm pretty sure that Iverson's team would not have done jack against the Dallas/Utah squads we played against in those years. Its pointless comparing the Eastern Conference of yesteryear to the Western conference of back then. They differential was too great. Its only lately that th Eastern conference has become a power house (i.e. Since Last Year). Look at Lebron powering through the finals in the first year we got beat by Utah. They got rolled by the Spurs who had a tough series against the Jazz who rolled us. I'm sure if the Rockets were the Spurs back then we would have rolled Lebron James and his Cavs.
The year Iverson got to the Finals was the year 2001. 2004 was when Maglorie was an all-star. I think Iverson is one of the most overrated players of all-time, but he is the better leader than Tracy and he has accomplished more. You can go bring your scoring titles in this thread, because we all know Iverson has more anyways. And Let's face it, Tracy played in the East in Orlando and never got past the 1st round. You guys that are defending Tracy are just building yourselves a bigger and bigger hole each and every time you post.
And he willed what when he was in Denver in the Western Conference where advancing to the 2nd round actually means something. The eastern conference sucked eggs the year Iverson led to the finals. Or do you forget it was the conference where a nearly .500 knicks team from the 8th seed made it to the finals! You can't compare conferences. Not when T-mac has had to go up against Utah and Dallas at their peak. We finally got an easy draw and advanced. You think if we pulled Denver in the first round without T-mac we still would have advanced? Luck of the draw counts a lot. And further more, T-mac in orlando did have crappy teammates. T-mac has had the crappiest supporting cast of any premier player. If t-mac is healthy and Yao as well - it will be his first year with a great team.
Other posters have pointed out his moving of goal posts...so I have taken their word for it without reading the entire thread. But since you nor him questioned that assesment, I took it to be true. Frankly, I think you are really personalizing this. You are calling me a flipflopper, a liar, and you say my posts are stupid. I don't appreciate that. And I have no desire to get into it with you, Tinman, or Dada. I'm not here for that stuff. If you post with this attitude, I just won't respond anymore. I respect this BBS really enjoy being here - I am not going to be a member who drags it into a cesspool. I've done my share of that already. I'm done with it.
Thats probably true, the Detroit series was the biggest hole Tracy has ever put himself into. The Sixers squad was a better team then any team Tracy has played in. The worse part of this argument with Iverson and Tracy is that they both sucked balls in the Western Conference with arguably two all stars next to them Carmelo and Yao. To me they both have been losers and I have no doubt if Mcgrady was in the Eastern Conference with the same Houston team we would be Conference final or NBA finals. There is no way someone can tell me the Lebron James team that made the NBA finals was better then our Rocket squads in the same era. It just blows my mind if thats the case. Equal but not better i would say
Can't disagree with you there. I agree 100% with your entire post this time. Sadly, the Rockets play in the West and we can't change that. I also believe, we could have made the Finals if we were in the East. Tracy and Iverson have both been exposed as losers this year in my opinion. Iverson has been exposed more after quitting on his team for the 1st time in his career. We all know Tracy's a quitter in Houston and we all know his story in Orlando. The only thing different between those two is that Iverson has a reputation of being a Cancer while Tracy McGrady has a reputation of being a 2nd round virgin. All said and done, Tracy used to be one of my favorite players in the league especially in Orlando and his early years here in Houston. Sadly, he is being more and more exposed of a loser each and everyday.
Bahaha how is it a hole? I'm not trying defend mcgrady but the things your saying are based off the scoreboard. "Hey if Mcgrady was the best he should've beat the sucky ass pistons with that tremendous squad that he had". "Let me fail to realize that mcgrady outscored his team in the first half in 3 of those 7 games". "Nope I just look at the scored board and notice that the sucky ass pistons that weren't champions the following year completely dominated Tracy Mcgrady and his team of all stars the last 3 games". No. You want to talk about best big mean of an era? Your boy Mutumbo had 113 offensive rebounds and 203 and defensive boards throughout the playoffs in 2001. Oh and who had the the highest ppg during those playoffs. Not Iverson, but the one you hate o' so much.
Can't tell you how much times I've heard this. "Tracy use to be my favorite player ever but now he sucks and he pick the lakers to win it all so i hate him".
Was the term ONE OF THE BEST big men clear enough for you? Obviously not, since you tried to correct me and failing terribly. I shouldn't question you about Tracy since you followed him from Orlando to here. Should I? Then again, all you Tracy only fans have biased stand points so maybe I should. I couldn't have cared less about him taking the Lakers. Maybe when he stops throwing his team under the bus and gets heart surgery, maybe then people will like him again. But as for now, he's Public Enemy #1 in Houston Rockets Basketball.
It was meant to be best big men* as in plural. I could say about Tracy haters. Heart surgery? Lmao, good one haven't heard that one before
