The Rockets don't have the money to sign James. It's as simple as that. Even after McGrady leaves in 2010, we still don't have enough money to sign a max player. Go look at the finances. The only way we could even be in the game to sign James is if we let Artest and Wafer walk, let McGrady walk, let Scola walk in 2010 (he is going to want a big raise), and let either Landry or Lowry walk in 2010 (they both will likely want raises). This idea that we can just put James in McGrady's slot is not possible. And keep in mind that James is on record as saying he wants to be the first billionaire athlete and that he wants to try and become the richest man in the world. That isn't going to happen in Houston. If he leaves Cleveland, which is basically his hometown (close enough), the only place he'd go is New York.
My point was he would choose money over team right now. He would not take less money to play for a championship team n Rockets does not have that kind of money unless we dump pretty much half of our good roster.
You should tell that to the guy that was on the Jim Rome show that mentioned Houston as a place LBJ might want to go to.
And if we re-sign Ron, we're going to be 20+ million over the cap. Then in 2010 Lowry, AB, Scola, and Hayes to deal with. I understand why people may think we can give the money TMAC is making to someone like Lebron or DWade, but we can't.
Yes, we did. Those $20 mil guys took the $60 mil Lakers to game seven in a series that won't soon be forgotten. Don't undercut what they did just because you're a Yao fan.
The difference between an MLE and the max isn't going to make that much difference in his drive for a billion. However, further expanding the Chinese market could push him a ways down that road. The King and The Emperor. Get 'er done Morey.
from hoopshype at 2010, including yao's player option $17,686,100, rocket's salary is about $28,040,600. look it can sign some star and resign scola...
i believe we have a 25% chance of landing him out of all the other teams out there. A guy who storm off the court without speaking to the reporters after a loss means he WANTS TO WIN and don't care about the $$ http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2009/news/story?id=4222452
Forget Lebron. I want Dwyane Wade in Houston in the summer of '10. D-Wade in Houston would be so incredibly ridiculous. There's a proven player (i.e. championship winner) who can team up with the great big man he is pining for (our very own Yao Ming), along with our awesome other players, to get us that ring. Stat.
