Oh really? He looks smart haha.

I bet no one knows that Plies graduated from Harvard

Okafor had a 3.8 with a crapload of academic honors.

Etan Thomas also who is a published writer and poet in case people aren't aware of that.

Kevin Durant is pretty smart also he had a high GPA while at Texas.

Is this in terms of Basketball IQ or just in general or academic?

There are loads of NBA players who are dumbasses in real life but incredibly smart on the court.

There are plenty of idiots who go to college, that isn't the point. I doubt a high school diploma would qualify Kobe as one of the smartest players, academically speaking. The fact that he was going to Duke is irrelevant - that was because of his basketball ability, not IQ. (Duke ain't Notre Dame. )

He could very well be a bright guy, but I have a hard time tagging anyone who didn't go to college as "one of the smartest players, academically speaking".

Academically, Emeka Okafor. Dude got his degree in 3 years iirc, and his vocab is pretty good when i read about it in an SI piece.
Dumbest is probably Rose. His interviews scream stupid!

I think most of these people are basing it off how the players speak to the media. "Well he's well-spoken, he must be pretty bright!"

Before Desagana Diop was drafted, it was rumored that he was mentally challenged because they would not allow media access to him.

When interviewed Tracy knows how to talk but than again he did not go to college.

I'd still put him in the smart category.

I heard Daniel Boobie Gibson graduated sixth in his high school class of 200+ kids and was a member of the national honors society.

Greg Oden seemed like a pretty bright "kid" too.

Darius Miles isn't that smart to me, and Stephon Marbury has to be one of the dumbest.
