The league needed Magic Johnson and Larry Bird to revitalize it. It reached its heights when Michael Jordan became a superstar. The NBA has always been about the stars.

Vitamin Water, Nike, and ESPN will be soooooo pissed if it's Orlando vs. Denver in the Finals.

If the league can't market a Melo and Dwight finals, then their marketers should be fired. There are more than two superstars in the league.

Yeah, but Coors and Disney would love it.

I never dream of a T-mac buzzer beater and I'm guessing that might also be a far fetched dream, at least from a Rockets' fan POV.

I usually pull for the underdog, unless its a Houston team, and most of the time Houston teams are underdogs.

I like the NBA but more than an NBA fan I am a Rockets fan. Being a Rockets fan if you remember the 1995 playoffs you should understand why I want to see the NBA and the marketing hype machine fail.

You're too late with that one. :p

It's not "the league" that does the marketing, that's largely a manner of their individual sponsors, who presumably choose people on the basis of their potential - there's a reason why Nike is investing 100's of millions into LeBron more than they are doing so with Anthony - it's because more people would rather see LeBron than Anthony.

I think it would be ironic if these two teams didn't play considering I have to watch Lebron and Kobe nike commercials all the time.

It would be great as it would mean that a franchise would win its first championship. It would however be a TV ratings nightmare.

If it is a Lebron-Kobe finals I plan on not watching. As much as there will problably be some great basketball the fever pitch of marketing is going to be very annoying.

If we see Denver vs Orlando, we will see the 2 more well-rounded, deeper teams in the playoffs meet. On that merit alone, this series is well worth wishing for.

Conversely a Kobe/Lebron matchup will pit the two best players against each other. Another reasonable wish.

But wishing for an outcome solely based on spite for corporations seems odd to me. How about don't watch ESPN news or highlights (which everyone swears they hate yet they must still be watching because they keep bringing them up) and switch the channel during commercials (I do). You guys are just further proving the hype works because it's obviously getting your attention.

Why are they more well rounded - Cleveland's combined offenseive and defensive effiency rankings (3rd and 4th) were the best in the league.

I would love a Kobe/Lebron finals. the two best players in the league for the championship? would definitely watch, even though i hate kobe with a passion. i'd like to see Lebron kick the Lakers all over the court.

but it's either Kobe/Lebron or Nuggets/Magic for me. i don't want a Kobe and no Lebron or the other way around. both or none. it's easy for me to root for Lebron but even easier to root for the Magic.

Yeah, I don't get why people all of a sudden say that LeBron has a crappy team, and that he deserves better.

They were blowing people away in the regular season AND in the playoffs until they met Orlando. And suddenly LeBron has no supporting cast, blah blah blah.

My poorly worded point was that the Nuggets and Magic are getting more output from more people during the playoffs. The role players are disappearing for the Lakers in the playoffs, while the Cavs role players have dropped off the face of the earth during this series.

And about their efficiency, that is what is making this so tough for me. I think the buildup this whole season just to see it crash this badly would rival The Shot for me.

They have bogged down a bit offensively and started standing around while others dribble, that much is true. I actually still think they have a way better than 4% shot of winning the series (their statistical number). I think they take game 5 and take game 6 down to the wire like two days ago, then it's game 7 at home if successful.

I hope you're right. I may have a nervous breakdown if we lose tonight.

We're the only team that took the Lakers to Game 7.

If we were in the East, we'd be in the Finals.
