So my kid comes home from school today......the usual "how was school?"

blah blah blah......being the last few days before summer, the kids had a "competition" in PE. Cup Stacking?!?

maybe I am a little late to this......but my 6 year old is showing me youtube clips and actually gets some cups and bedazzles me with her sic skillz!

well......God bless her, she's trying ;) (not exactly youtube material yet.)

but.....is this the next big thing? I have never even heard of it.

I would be plenty proud of my kid if they were that good at anything (not counting prostitution, murder, etc. lol)...but seriously...I would hope they'd spend their time learning something more useful than that.

It was fun to watch somebody else's kid do this.

I have no kids, now. When I do have kids, they better be spending all them hours on the books and not on the cups.

    I'm sure it's fun...

... but I don't see how the kids learn or develop anything with that. I wouldn't want that as part of my kid's curriculum.

    agreed. but......

this is my FIRST grader. I can see some serious eye-hand coordination here.

    My high schooler however, yea.........Issues.

whatever. Cup Stacking > World of Warcraft. :D

Not to be a jerk here, but that is spoken with ignorance regarding the curriculum of physical education for early childhood. As an elementary teacher, I can tell you that part of what PE teachers are trying to teach at the Kinder/1st grade level is development of fine motor vs. gross motor skills. Manual dexterity is part of the curriculum at that age and, I think everyone would agree, is most definitely a necessary skill. Teaching true physical wellness to a child isn't always about who can throw the hardest or who can dunk a basketball. Sometimes, you've got to work on the small details as well.

so what if my kids can't read. Long as they can throw a ball down a hoop, it's all good.

dunk and point at the opposing kid.

It's cool if your first grader is doing it...

...but I find it funny when that chick repeats a few times, "it's an actual sport". If you have to argue that it's a sport, then it's not a sport.

Cup stacking is one step above catch ball in a cone. And one step below juggling.

It's good for eye/hand coordination and beats sitting on the couch watching tv.

It beats running!! I remember having to run laps and collecting a straw for every lap. I hated it. It's not like I was going to get in shape. I mean my mother used too much mazola corn oil on my lunch and well cafeteria food sucked.
