Mutombo has been a very durable player over the years, and he was kept fresh for the playoffs. He's also well into his 40s. Still, I don't consider it a huge mistake for your 3rd-string center to be undersized. Dorsey is wide, strong, and athletic. We're not talking about a runt, here.

Morey sounded like Dorsey's problems are mental -- I'm guessing more in how he deals with adversity (lack of playing time) and the daily expectations of being a professional player. However, everything I've heard for months is that he's a long way away from actually contributing, that he's more suited for football than basketball. If I remember right, he signed a 4-year deal with the last two years being team options... meaning he could be expiring for a team in 2010?

My guess is he gets traded.

Correct, but Ben Wallace's heydays are truly over. There is no one else with that height who can be compared with him,Chuck is very good on defense but there is only so much that he can do.Someone brought up Robert Swift's example as a cheap 7' footer, who shouldn't even be considered for anything IMO,however the need for a reasonably skilled, hard working center with height, length and some size is obvious. Deke isn't going to be walking through that door. Even if he were,we would still need an eventual replacement.

Someone might take a chance on him. I think we can't expect more than a mid to late 2nd rounder for him, which would be fine with me.

Everything about his game says otherwise. He didn't get 6'7" tall and athletic by hard work. Mom and dad should be credited with that. Everything out of the organization concerning Dorsey's attitude is negative.

Lol deke better than birdman? Laughable. Birdman runs, dunks, cuts, and blocks. Deke just blocks and maybe throw an elbow here and there.

    QFT

I could've spit when we passed on Jordan. He showed some flashes of his potential at the end of last year.

I never hear Adonal Foyle mentioned. He signed a big contract with GS a few years back, so he must have had some game. He gets no minutes with Orlando because of Gortat and he's working for the minimum, might be good value for what he would be expected to do and what he gets paid.

I think it'll be easier to play Dorsey at 4 than 5. If the Rox play Dorsey at 4 along with Yao, Yao can cover some of his defensive mistakes as he gains experience. But too many 4s on Rox already, there's no playtime.

I think if Dorsey every has to get minutes on this team we are down to our 3rd string center and have exhausted our 3 pfs'.

If he shows up at camp healthy, works hard and responds to coaching, he could be an asset at about the 8th man level. He's strong enough and has enough reach to be a defensive force with fouls to give. On the offensive end he needs to be a rebounding, loose ball machine and develop the awareness to cut and look for the inside cut passes from the dribble penetrators to pick up the easy buckets around the rim.

I think he can do it if he has the health and will to work hard. I want to give him every chance. But I'd still bring a true 7 footer into camp too if I could find one with a second round pick purchase, Garret Siler Augusta St. sounds interesting ...worth a scout look

    It's possible.

    Not desirable.

Technically, the third year of his contract is partially guaranteed, since having two straight team options (other than on first round pick contracts) is not allowed under the CBA. That means that, if the Rockets waive Dorsey next summer, SOME amount (maybe ~$500k?) will count against the salary cap and luxury tax. Hence, trading him (for anything or nothing) would be preferable to waiving him.

he'll never be able to do those dunks he did in college in the NBA. i think he'll be a pretty decent force on defence if we really train him.

and no he is not a suitable bakc up CENTER for Yao, id rather take chuck hayes at this point.

ps: the guy looks like hes on 20 pounds of steroids

Shelden Williams and Greg Oden played like beasts in college basketball. Now look at how they are doing in the NBA.

I like Joey but he didn't remotely close to their level.

Ben wallace is 6'9. On that pistons team they had elden, okur, and rasheed who all are 6'11 or taller. I know u try to reason with their thinking, but they were just wrong not taking into account size.

    This is a misconception.

If the average US income is $42,028 (by 2005 study), and the average person does not go to college but works from the age of 19 until Social Security kicks in at 65 years old and then retires.

They would have worked 46 years and made $1,933288 over their lifetime.
