1) Would you watch a live action Star Wars TV show? 2) Would George Lucas ever give anybody permission to do a Star Wars TV show? Personally, if made and written by the right people, I think a Star Wars TV show would kick major arse...
1. Probably not...maybe.. if it was good. 2. I doubt it The TV series would probably have to take place before or after the movies... I think it would water down the already massive SW universe...
I think Star Trek TNG could be brought back tomorrow and kick ass there has GOT to be a reason TNN plays the bejesus out of TNG
They already did that http://www.timewarptv.com/site/programs/Star_Wars_Holiday_Special/ Luke, Leia, Chewbacca, Art Carney, Bea Arthur, Harvey Korman and the world premiere of Boba Fett! More seriously, "Star Wars" is an epic story. It's not at all suited to the character-driven, episodic nature of television.
Star Wars Holiday Special... (shudder)... Bet Lucas wishes he could take that one back... Even if your proposed SW show has twice the quality of the dialogue found in the prequel movies... it'll still suck donkeyballs. Personally, I'd rather have a Section 31 Star Trek series... I think the bigger questions here are (1) "Are you watching Farscape?" and (2) "Why not?" Really, though, I just wanted to plug Farscape in this space. It's the best sci-fi show on TV today. Great acting, great dialogue, stupendous storylines, okay special effects, awesome cinematography, and crazy villains. Best of all... it's got muppets!!!
Follow the link I posted above: According to Steve Sansweet, at a convention in Australia, George Lucas said something to the effect "that if he had the time and a hammer, he would track down every bootlegged copy of that program and smash it." cue music..."How many people wanna kick some a$$?"
I have a copy of that Star Wars Holiday Special -- if anyone wants it, email me. I still haven't gotten through but about 15 minutes of it. This is, without a doubt, THE WORST thing that I've ever seen. It's so bad, it's almost unfunny. I heard it was awful, but that couldn't have prepared me for the horror that is The Star Wars Christmas Special. AAAH!! This sums it up well.
It's common knowledge now that Star Wars was originally meant to be a Saturday morning type TV Show. He wrote the original trilogy in small one-hour episodes, and then put them together to make a long saga, and then split them up again. Hence, we have A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. And, as they say, the rest is history.....
