Just curious, does anyone here think that we could land his services to be a back up center? He's made his dough, so do ya think he'll take a pay cut to be a champion? If not maybe we could set our eyes on a Robert Swift or someone with size and athletic ability. Free Agents of 2009 http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=freeagents-09-10
With Jackson and Tinsley ... maybe Reggie comes out of retirement? Champs '10! Serious now, O'neal is injury prone but very decent when healthy. And it isn't even certain we can resign Ron Ron ...
Exactly I was assuming we don't re-sign Ron. Plus I'm pretty sure this team would have more maturity than to let Mayhem at the Palace Part II to errupt. And I wouldn't mind getting Stephen Jackson if he came with the right deal.
O'neal has a $21+M player option for next season. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that he exercises it. He'll be a Miami Heat player next year, short of a trade.
If we can get him as well as Cap'n Jack and Tinsely on top of resigning Artest, what would be the over/under on player games suspended and off the court gun charges?
If you think about it with their minutes limited it could be a help to both of their careers. Plus they have a great chance for a ring. But like I said it depends on the $$$.
Agree with you to a certain extent, but to bank on your two centers who have had major injurie issues throughout their careers is just to much of gamble for me. I would like to see the rockets aquire a veteran backup center/PF-shotblocker and then aquire a young long athletic 4/5 project to bring along slowly. I think its time Morey gets alittle more diversified on his frontline instead of using his moneyball approach. Adding athletic size instead of running a midget frontline when Yao is out may not be as effective in the regular season, but more effective when the cards are on the table in the playoffs.
I like o'neal, but injury has been killing the rockets and we don't want another guy with such terrible injury history.
I have suggested a McGrady-for-JO swap as a last ditch effort several times. JO definitely isn't my first choice but he fills a need and has an identical contract to McGrady. Sort of a lateral move but it's also a move that could pay off and that doesn't involve much risk.
But I'd rather have what a healthy McGrady brings the team than what a healthy JO brings. And which player is more likely to be healthy next year? Sort of a toss up, I think.
