I'm moving in a month. Unfortunately my new place is not facing south and can't get satellite. I've been with DirecTV or Dishnetwork for over a decade now. I'm mainly worried about my HD channels and the Rockets. The more HD the better. Do Comcast or Uverse compare with satellite when it comes to HD? What programming do I need to have to watch the Rockets? Anything else I need to be worried about? I am guessing internet is faster and better with cable then DSL?
You are better off with Comcast. Though Uverse is a better product as per the buzz; their serviceability is very limited. Even at time when they tell you its available, its not. Try your new address here and see if it works: www.whitefence.com.
I get the Rox in HD with U-Verse. I also get fast internet speeds and A LOT more channels than I ever had with Comcast, and the digital pictures blow Comcast away. I would never, ever, ever go back to them. Ever, ever.
I think you get about the same number of HD channels. I used to have Comcast, but the customer service is so amazingly terrible that I had to change (they stood me up for TWO appointments then wouldn't let me complain to a manager...flat out told me "no"). I hate them with a passion. That said, IMO, Direct TV has the best HD picture. Comcast's HD picture is a little better than UVerse's, but UVerse is cheaper, has much better customer service, and the DVR that works for all TV's is better. I prefer UVerse. Internet-about the same. I would go with UVerse if I was you. Comcast is fine until you have a problem, which you will have. (I had tons of issues with Comcast, never had any with Time Warner)
I'm FINALLY getting Uverse this Saturday. After repeated reschedulings (no fault of AT&T's), I should be a complete slave of AT&T's. I'll be getting their phone, TV, and Internet service. I have their 6 megabit DSL service right now with maybe 2 outages in the 4.5 years I've been with them in my house. If all goes well, I'll hopefully be getting 18 mbit speeds for Internet. I'll be switching from TimeWarner cable to them for TV service. I don't trust cable service in this area for Internet - way too many outages and issues for me to use them no matter what the price.
I have Comcast here, can't get U-Verse here yet, even though ATT told me it would be available in my area last October. Comcast, eh, what do you say? They suck, but it's all I can get here besides satellite. HD picture quality is great on most channels, a few of them it looks like they've cut down the bandwidth or something and you have some compression-artifact-looking things. Comcast DVR boxes suck out of this world, I've said it before, they look like they were programmed by a 7th grade Java student in half a day, they're awful, slow and just functional (not to mention an ugly GUI). Programmed horrible, I've been through 5 in a year with bugs/crashes. Haven't had much problems with their service here except their guys are lazy, slow, and aren't that smart, but they come when scheduled, and I haven't had to have them out but a couple times. Overall, I'd rate the T.V. service as a 7 or 8 out of 10, it's good, but not great. Internet is super-fast and pretty reliable here. I also have their phone service which is fine and I don't have any problems with it.
Sorry to hear that bud. I switched from Comcast to U-verse last year and I would never, ever, ever go back. It's like when you buy a big screen HDTV for the first time and all of a sudden your old TV looks like a fuzzy turd -- same feeling.
Crapcast just brought out a new HDDVR by Cisco, it still has the same crappy interface and I'm on my third one because the first two broke and even this new one has firmware or software issues and has all kinds of bugs still in it.. How the hell the largest cable provider brings out a "new" HDdvr and worse than the one that came out 6 years ago is beyond me.. The best part is when I asked if I could have the old model DVR they said they will no longer issue them.. I like the interface and flexibility of the ATT DVR, but for me the compression on some of the channels is a bit much.. Overall if it were an option where I live I'd switch to ATT..
Agreed. My internet was a little faster with Comcast but not much. My one gripe with U-Verse is no NBA TV. I would never go back to Comcast.
I've had Uverse for over a year now (switched from Comcast). Great product. Haven't had many issues, and when I have, they usually have a tech out the next day. And I know this has been beaten to death, but their customer service is AMAZINGLY good. They'll hook you up, give you discounts, and try to bundle up a package that both meets your needs and saves you a few bucks. On top of that, I just got a total of $250 cash back Love Uverse.
I tried that website. It tells me I can't get AT&T high speed internet but I can get U-Verse?!? I called U-Verse before and they said it was available in my area but that I would have to change my phone number. Since I had just moved and changed my number I decided to stay with Comcast. And since Comcast has added a boatload of HD channels, I'm okay (Travel Channel HD!). Customer service still sucks.
I'd say it's worth it to change your number. Or you can do what I did -- switch to Vonage (it's cheaper than either Comcast or Uverse voice offerings) and keep your number. I use Uverse for Internet and TV, and Vonage for voice.
U-Verse! U-Verse! U-VERSE! This is not even a debate. It's like, do I want to eat a turd sandwich or filet mignon? Except that comparing Comcast (Warner really, ugh) to a turd sandwich is really extremely insulting to turd sandwiches.
Don't trust 3rd party websites for something like that - call the company up directly (which I guess you did). I remember when I worked for GTE/Verizon in their DSL provisioning/development group, their own website wasn't even as up-to-date with info as the information a tech/CSR would look up if you called them (kind of silly, but... it's the telecom industry... )
wow, you guys have me considering a move to Uverse now. How much is internet service with Uverse? Do you have to have a landline for ATT/U-Verse internet?
i am a slave to comcast because i enjoy having cable in every room, does u-verse depend on a box to get service? for example, i have cable outlets in all the bedroom plus the living room, dining room, back patio and garage, and i only have one cable box, can i do this with u-verse and watch different programming on every tv?
