Just think about it!! If we draft Yao, not only will he more than likely be a future all star, but the rest of our team could be. The Chinese will definitely vote Yao as the starter. 1+ Billion votes will make you a starter. But Francis, Mobes, and probably Griffin will become all-stars. If we sign Rashard, he will be an all-star. 1+ Million votes will turn a team into all-stars. Just look at what Ichiro did. And he was from Japan!!!!!!!

Come on dude, do really think the Chinese will let their people VOTE for allstars? They don't want to give people any GOOD ideas, do they?

realistically he does have a point. if 1% of all chinesse just in China voted for Ming, he is already an all-star. Even before he starts play in the NBA.

But will he deserve to be an all star. That's what has to get answered first.

that would be awsome is the china could vote for us. But i only want francis , mobley, and mabe yao on that team. The rest of the team would be boring. Mabe the shoot blocking of ming and griff would be nice though.

NO, that is only a dream, because not all chinese have a computer and can vote. i forget the actual percentage, but I think only about 50 millions of Chinese have computers now.

with basketball as big as it is right now there, you can expect 5% of people with computers to vote for ming. thats 2.5 million votes

Not only is it possible, it is probable (at least for Ming). However, that will end up being the last year that fans are allowed to vote.

Let's see, we are the reason that the draft lottery is done the way it is, as well as being the main reason for changing the anti-iso illegal defense rules, and now we will be responsible for changing the way all-stars are chosen. What will be next?

The # of people owning computers might be small, but i would say atleast 20-35% of chinese have access to computers. When I went back to shanghai last summer, i can surf the net, play starcraft or counter strike for arount 8 yuan or $1/ hr. I can easily see ming as an allstar, though i don't know if his first year will warrant such a vote.

Was Wang Zhi Zhi on the ballot? Just curious (of course he shouldn't be) because I wonder what type of votes his countrymen would give him.

don't forget that barkley backing down for the entire 24 seconds (with a little help from mark jackson) got the 5 second backdown rule (aka the charles barkley and mark jackson rule) put into effect. and i think derek harper's insane handchecking of kenny smith and our guards in the 94 finals got a new handcheck rule on the books.

can you imagine the resentment of the fans across the league (particularly in LA) if Ming were voted in as the all-star starter?? particularly if he's clearly not an all-star type player, but is merely voted in because of the population of China!??

I did a statistic prediction on Ming's first year numbers based on the stats of an NBA player who played in CBA before. The prediction is Yao Ming may avarage 14 points and 10.71 rebounds in the NBA as a rookie. Given the poor competition at center, that should be good enough for Yao to be considered. If you are interested in the details, here is the link to the thread.

    http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?threadid=34923

Wizkid is right that there is numerous internet cafes all over China where people without computer or internet access go online. The number of Yao Ming's Chinese fans are more important than the number of computers, and whether the majority of Chinese fans know about how the all stars are elected is also unknown. I wouldn't be surprised to see Yao becomes an all star in the first year for reasons discussed in this thread.
