Stan Van Gundy vs Phil Jackson Could these guys be any more polar opposites? One sounds looks and sounds like a raving maniac on the sidelines; the other looks like he's about to fall asleep. One is never satisfied with the way his team plays effort-wise. The other looks for every reason except effort to explain away a loss. One will always blame himself first after a loss; the other is way too smug and self-assured for that. One is short and rotund; the other is tall and gangly. This would be an interesting contrast in styles if they should meet in the Finals.
Am I the only one thinking that the Coach of the Year is being outcoached by Master of Panic in this series?
He is coach of the year merely because of Lebron. He is being exposed right now for the mediocre at best coach that he is.
In a parallel universe where the Rockets and the Cavs meet in the finals, Rick tells his team Mike Brown is borrowing his Coach of the Year trophy.
We need to be honest. It has very little to do with the actual skill of the coach. Coach of the year is the biggest joke of an award. I'd EASILY rather have: Jackson Karl Adelman Larry Brown Carlisle Poppovich Sloan McMillan D'Antoni as the coach of my team.
He is definitely being outcoached. I think this series has exposed mike brown as an elite coach. He has not made any adjustments and it has become obvious he is riding lebrons coattails.
Mike Brown let LeBron coach in game 3 by putting Pavlovic in the rotation. In game 4, Brown went back to his old rotation of Wally. Neither decision has worked out well for Coach of the Year.
^^^ I like this part. Seriously, it'd be fun to see these two matchup, although I still want the Lakers to die as soon as possible. JVG never liked Phil Jackson. I am sure Stan isn't too fond of Phil either.
SVG has NEVER had a disappointing season. His first season with Miami, he took that team to Round 2. They were projected to be a part of the Emeka/Dwight sweepstakes. Amazing job. The next year, he got them to the Conference Finals and they took the defending Champions and Larry Brown 7 games. Had they gotten a couple calls and some healthy players, they would have made the Finals. His third year, there's no doubt in my mind his team would have won it all had he stayed (and Shaq and Riley did not push him out). He inherited an Orlando team that was 2 games under .500 and played very poorly in Round 1 of the Playoffs and put them 22 games above .500 and led them to their first 1st Round victory since they made the championship in Shaq's rookie year. The job he has done this year without Jameer Nelson, undertalented and no true big men (other than Dwight), Pietrus and Courtney Lee in and out - absolutely fantastic. This team is defensively efficient. Their offense is very similar to the Rockets' 2005 team with Barry, James, Bowen, Wesley, etc. Fun team to watch, fun guy to listen to. If Orlando does win it all this year, SVG should quit, hit the broadcast booth, and then become the next coach of NYK after D'Antoni doesn't get the most out of Lebron, Wade, Bosh, TMac, etc.
They should have just given it to LeBron anyways, he's the ONLY reason why he won it. Mo Williams is an epic failure
Its funny how so many people always labelled SVG (like JVG) as the one who could never make adjustments and that he was too much of a dictator. I think hes shutting those people up fast.
Mike Brown = another "get more out of less" guy who fails when the screws get tight and the other team has a chance to adjust. SVG = lucky to be coaching against a guy who is a "get more out of less" guy who fails when the screws get tight and the other team has a chance to adjust.
I want to see SVG vs George Karl. It's time for other coach to win his 1st championship. PJ has his fortune and won 9 championships already. Some of them were results of luck, chokings of other team, and almighty Stern interfering: - 98 Gm 6 Howard Eisley's shot clock beating 3 was not counted by the refs - shot clock violation, lol; Ron Harper's 2 was counted which was obviously a shot clock violation. That's 5 pt swing right there. Not to mention Karl Malone choked and lost the ball when the Jazz led by 1 in the last minute. Bulls won by 1. Geeze!!! - 00 Gm 7 Blazers choked from 14 pts 4th qtr lead and lost the game. Blazers looked frozen in 4th qtr. Total brain fart from Mike Dunleavy and all his players. - 02 vs Kings. Gm 4 lucky bounce to Big Shot Bob for his game winning 3; Gm 6 Stern & refs doin' work; Gm 7 total choking by the Kings at FT line. Doug Christie was totally off and didn't want to shoot. And don't tell me PJ out-coached Rick in this series. So, PJ has his share of good fortunes. It's time to let other coaches get a first dip at championship.
Did you see that one timeout near the end of regulation where Brown was literally outside the huddle while his assistant coach drew up a play? All he was doing was clapping and nodding his head. That's just pathetic.
It's similar to what Doc Rivers does in Boston when the Celtics need a big stop. He lets Thibs do the talking. Mike Brown is more of a defensive coach, and that's fine.
