Police: Tyson's daughter hurt Boxer Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter is on life support after she was found with her neck caught in a cord of a treadmill machine Monday, police said. Exodus Tyson's 7-year-old brother found her on a treadmill with her neck on a cable attached to the exercise machine at their Phoenix home, police Sgt. Andy Hill said, calling it a "tragic accident." The boy told Exodus' mother, who was in another room. She took Exodus off the cord, called 911 and tried to revive her. Responding officers and firefighters performed CPR on Exodus as they rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was in "extremely critical condition" and on life support, Hill said. "Somehow she was playing on this treadmill, and there's a cord that hangs under the console -- it's kind of a loop," Hill said. "Either she slipped or put her head in the loop, but it acted like a noose, and she was obviously unable to get herself off of it." Hill said former heavyweight champion Tyson had been in Las Vegas but flew to Phoenix immediately after learning of the accident. Tyson could not immediately be reached for comment but 42West, a New York City public relations firm representing him, released a statement on the family's behalf. "The Tyson family would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks for all your prayers and support, and we ask that we be allowed our privacy at this difficult time," the statement said. Brief footage from local TV station KTVK showed Tyson arriving at the hospital in a white button-up and black pants, and looking around with a frown before going inside. Hill said everything in the investigation pointed to an accident. "There's nothing in the investigation that revealed anything suspicious," he said. He added that responding to calls involving children is an officer's most difficult duty. "Those are the things that stay with you in your career," he said. "We always hope for a miracle -- not to have the worst happen to a child." link
Awful. Mike has had the worst of luck in terms of death around him. It seems that everyone he gets close to, dies. Reminds me of my favorite basketball player ever, Eddie Griffin. Hopefully she can pull through...
I heard about this last night and thought about the unfairness of it all. A child with everything in life before her, clinging to life, because of a freak accident with an exercise amchine many have in their house. While I'm far from a fan of Mike Tyson, my heart goes out to him and his family. I hope that she survives and is OK. It doesn't sound good at all.
What's amazing: it sounds like that's the cord to the safety key on the treadmill. It's used to prevent an accident. Hope she's alright.
Sounds like the safety cord to me as well; with the ones I've used they don't pop out of the machine itself, but just trigger the belt to stop turning. I could easily see how that could prove a hazard to a child. Just watched a screening of Tyson a few days ago. It was deeply moving; the man is a tragic figure, achingly aware of the pain he causes himself and others, the consequences of his own learned brutality. Toward the end the only thing he seemed to genuinely look forward to was watching his children grow up. Now he just seems even more thoroughly cursed.
Who knows for sure, but it really seemed like Tyson's life was settling down and things were turning around for him personally. Hope his kid is ok -- but it doesn't sound good right now.
saw it a few weeks ago and it is great. i've been trying to tell anybody who will listen that, as shocking and hard as it is for most people to comprehend, not only is mike tyson not one of the dumbest morons to walk the face of the earth like everybody has been led to believe, he is actually highly intelligent and remarkably eloquent. he has a silly, lispy, cartoonish voice which makes him sound dumb, but he certainly is not. it is but a common, unfair misconception that the media has driven into everybody's heads throughout his career. i knew this before screening the film, but it is driven home in spades while listening to his stream-of-consciousness prose. i encourage everybody to watch it, and, like the last poster, the first thing i thought of when hearing about his daughter's tragedy, was how he was finally finding peace in his life and all he wanted to do now was watch his children grow up. truly tragic, and best wishes to her pulling through.
Looks like she passed away. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4207704 PHOENIX -- The 4-year-old daughter of boxer Mike Tyson died at a hospital Tuesday, a day her neck apparently got caught in a treadmill cord at her Phoenix home. Exodus Tyson was pronounced dead just before noon, police spokesman Andy Hill said. She had been on life support since the accident Monday. Police said Exodus either slipped or put her head in the loop of a cord hanging under the console. Her 7-year-old brother found her and told their mother. She took Exodus off the cord, called 911 and tried to revive her. Responding officers and firefighters performed CPR as they took the girl to the hospital. Former heavyweight champion Tyson was in Las Vegas at the time of the accident and flew Monday to Phoenix, where he was seen entering the hospital. Tyson spokeswoman Cynthia Schwartz said the family had not arranged a funeral yet and would release a statement later.
Very sad story. Someone should have been watching her.Workout equipment is too dangerous to have children play around.
