...if Steve Francis doesn't win ROY. If i'm not mistaken Rodney Rogers won 6th Man of the Year just cos his team had a better record than Cat Mobley's. I mean Cat's stats matched up if not were better than Rogers yet Rogers won the award. NOw, Franchise played for a team who won twcie as many games as the team Brand played for. If ppl say that Rogers won the award bcos his team had a better record than the rockets, then shouldn't Stevie win it bcoz his team had a way better record than that of Brand's.

BTW, this is my 1st post so don't be too harsh, and + i am from australia.

Man, I thought you were Jenna at first with that name.

Hey, BigSexy, I don't think this is your 1st post, mayb on this board, but not on others. bcoz of your shorthand, ppl know you are experienced + you're an aussie. Don't all aussie's have leather skin. You'll do just fine. Tell us how you became a Rocket's fan.

Partner, you've got it wrong. "Bcoz" and "ppl" is the Queen's English. Ask Azim the Dream.

I don't think Phoenix's record is the only reason Rogers won the award. I think he got it because he's a post and an outside threat and also gets rebounds. Mobley is a great slasher, but scoring points is all he does.

Team performance has almost nothing to do with winning Rookie of the year, IMO, because most ROY candiates are lottery picks and play on lousy teams to begin with. The only difference between the Bulls' 17 wins and the Rockets' 34 wins is a few extra ping pong balls...

What makes this ROY race so hard to predict, however, is the two people that are being compared. Deciding whether a point guard is better than a power forward is almost comparing apples and oranges. Brand will naturally average more points and rebounds per game because he gets the ball in the post almost every time down the court. Francis's job, however, is to break down defenses, distribute the ball, and get other people involved. A PG collecting (not averaging) more total points, rebounds, assists, and steals than any other member of his team is amazing...Plus, how many point guards in the league are on the RECEIVING end of alley oops on a nightly basis? I think Francis should win ROY because he developed more as a player over the season. While Brand simply performed the same post moves night in and night out, you could tell that Francis was making better decisions and was learning the game as the season progressed.

Hell, I think the Francis should win Rookie of the Year simply by finishing second in the Dunk Contest at the All Star game

Does anybody have a cool idea for a signature??

I'm not saying he won it bcoz of his teams record. i am saying however, that ppl said believe that just because he contributed to a more talented team (right now phoenix has more talented players than houston) he should win the award. same as francis tho. he scored nearly the same amounts of points per game as brand and he too contributed to a much more talented team than the bulls. from where i am, that's how i see it.

this is besides the point but i became a rockets fan when the rockets won 15 straight games to open the 1993-94 season. when jordan retired the nba coverage down in australia moved away from the bulls. man, i had never seen NE1 play ball the way olajuwon did.
