In the spirit of Dave Matthews threads...which I truly can't get enough of, quite frankly:

I bought a new DVD player a couple of weekends back. After the 5/5 DMB concert, my wife and I were talking about how we'd like our 2 year old son to see them performing in a concert setting..withtout taking a 2 year old to a concert!!! He LOVES Ants Marching and some other songs..dances around and sings with them. Thought he'd love to see them performing on stage...

listener supported is the only DMB DVD of a concert I can find...but it doesn't have most of my very favorite songs...and it certainly doesn't have Ants Marching, something I'd really like for my son to see performed live.

any suggestions??? anyone know of any other recordings..

RM95?? Vengeance??? i figured you guys might know....

LS is the only concert DVD you'll find -- there is the video DVD that has all the music vids on it.

You'll find a few DMB videos online in the trader circles -- but not many. The Van Ryper's music festival is the most prominent one -- 4/5/92. The video is so-so quality. I don't have a copy of it, but I can get one if you'd like it. This does have Ants Marching. As I recall, it's a fairly good concert.

Also, the Live in Chicago disc (12/19/98) was web-casted with streaming video. When I watched it, my video didn't work hardly at all, but I know that a few people online have it.

The Salt Lake City performance at the olympics has been floating around.

Oh, Dave and Tim did a performance on MTV's storytellers that hasn't ever been released to video. But I know that I can get that fairly easily.

There are some others out there, but these are the ones I've seen the most. Oh, and then there's the standard Leno/Letterman appearances.

The Listener Supported DVD KICKS ASS!! I liked Red Rocks CD better, but this is BY FAR the best concert DVD I've ever seen. Very, VERY well done across the board. I wish it had more "features", but that just gives us more stuff to look forward to.

ALSO, one more place -- If you pre-order "Busted Stuff", you'll get a DVD that has some live performances, plus a 5.1 audio mix of "Bartender". Just go to http://www.dmband.com to pre-order -- only 14 bucks for a CD, DVD and sticker!

OH, something that I brought up to copy/paste, but I forgot to post is this site:

    http://home.thezone.net/~trueref/main.html

You'll find some video downloads there as well.

Come to think of it, there are a few more live performances -- Dave went solo on Austin City Limits once I believe, and the Willie Nelson tribute is coming up -- Dave is doing "Ain't it funny how time slips away" solo, and he did "Long Black Veil" on the Johnny Cash tribute.

Vengeance -- i really appreciate your help!!!

i actually taped the storytellers performance with timmy last weekend! my son was captivated! :) it was hilarious...i mean, he's 2 years old!!!

but i think he'd really like a performance where boyd is wailing on the violin...and the saxophone is playing...more intense, like a full concert. and, heck..i'd like to have a copy of something like that too! wish i had a great dvd of the 5/5 show in the Woodlands...that would be perfect!! Ants Marching..Crush...Two Step....yeah, that would be the best.

I'm preordering now!!! does it say when they'll deliver by??

No problem. I'm not sure when that ships. I imagine it will arrive the day that it is released in stores (July 16th).

I would really suggest getting the LS DVD. He'll love it! Dave and Tim are great on the Storytellers show, but the LS is even better. I only wish there were some guests (other than Butch Taylor and the Lovely Ladies). I think we'd all love to see a concert DVD with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones guesting. But Listener Supported is AWESOME. The whole show is excellent.

There have been lots of rumors about more concert DVDs coming out, and I think that will happen some time late this year and throughout next year. Now that they've done so well with the cameras at the larger shows, it would be pretty easy to add a little bit more in the way of camera angles, and then put it on DVD.

i hope they release more dvd's!!!! that would be great!

yeah, i've pretty much concluded that i HAVE to buy Listener Supported, and not just because all the reviews for it are so good. Ultimately I have a DVD player...and there is a DMB DVD to be had..so I HAVE to have it! :) It's really that simple, ultimately!

If your kid keeps listening to DMB, I wonder if he'll develop a speech impediment like Dave Matthews. :D

Make him listen to classical music - it'll make him smarter.

RM95 -- what an eerie shirt....sept. 11th with the twin towers...two years before that awful day.

subatomic -- yeah...we try to expose him to lots of different kinds of music...i listen to a lot of jazz, so he hears that too.

Dave doesn't have a speech impediment! He's from South Africa . . . and sometimes he says some stupid stuff at concerts, but it's just to make the crowd laugh.

I bet your son would enjoy Bela Fleck and the Flecktones too. Live at the Quick is neat.

vengeance -- i have outbound, but i don't think he's ever heard it...it stays at my office...i listen to it when i'm busy working on a petition or something...particularly on rainy days....just sounds better on rainy days for some reason!

but you're right...i bet he would like it. of course, he also enjoys the theme to "Bear in the Big Blue House" and "Who Let the Dogs Out", so his musical tastes haven't quite matured just yet! :)

though i must admit, i find myself singing the Bear in the Big Blue House theme around the office sometimes...much to the amusement of my partners.

Glad you bought it!! Of all the concert DVDs I've seen, this one is BY FAR the best. And I'm not saying that just because I'm a DMB fan -- it REALLY IS that good. The next best concert DVD I've seen is the Flecktones "Live at the Quick". I'd never seen a Flecktones show before, and I was blown away! But LS is just exceptional! The camera angles, the band shots, etc. -- it's all remarkable!

If you want to expose your son to some blues, Keb 'Mo has a concert DVD that's fairly good as well. I'll gladly loan it to you if you'd like (I wouldn't buy it though -- see it once and that's usually enough -- just listen to the CDs after that).

I should be getting the Live in Chicago video soon -- I'll let you know how it is.

Vengeance -- I love the Flecktones...but I'm not familiar with Keb 'Mo...

Dave Matthews lists some African musical group as a huge influence on him...do you remember who that is??? sound familiar at all???

Oh yeah...can't believe I didn't tell you guys this yet....the lady who checked me out (wait...I don't mean it that way!) at Best Buy last night, when I bought the DVD, said, "Oh...Dave Matthews Band, huh? They're kinda racist right?" I said, "no...there are black guys and white guys in that band...and they certainly don't sing about anything that i'd consider racist" And she said, "Yeah..but Dave is white and he named the band after himself. And he sings all the songs and everything."

I was stunned...I honestly didn't know what to say...I smiled and said, "you ought to listen to them some...i think you'd like them." i couldn't come up with anything else. Said thanks and went on my way....hilarious, though. I was wishing my wife was with me to hear that...or at least a friend I could laugh about it with.

More than likely, the group/artist he is talking about is "Big Voice Jack". Jack is THE greatest pennywhistle player in the world -- he's guested in one concert, and Dave has mentioned him a few times. He donated the pennywhistles used on the BTCS album. Big Voice Jack is from South Africa.

Max -- HILARIOUS story about the racism thing :) hahahaha!! Yeah, Dave is a huge racist . . . 3/5 of his band is black, he has been outspoken about South African black rights, and human equality across the world. Big racist!!

Keb 'Mo is a GREAT young blues artist. Won two grammys earlier on, but lately he hasn't quite lived up to his previous work. It's still great though. He'll be playing down here in October (can't wait!). He released a DVD called "Live at 51st Street" that's basically just a concert of his. It's pretty good, but not spectacular, like the LS DVD.
