my girl and her parents love this place. we were talking recently about making a trip up there for that place alone.
Yeah. They have several locations in the DFW area. It usually gets voted the best fried chicken in the area often. I had it once and it was ok. Nothing great in my opinion. I thought the sides were oversalted and still bland. But then I love spicy fried chicken - like Popeye's. A new Babe's opened in the Frisco area. There's one in Garland, too. Sanger is the original location, I believe. Try it - you may like it.
There are about 4 or 5 up here in the Dallas area from the looks of it and 1 in Spring, Tx. but that's it. No others in Houston from what I can see. I've never even heard of it, but there's apparently one near where I live. I may try it out - I'll report back if I remember. Is there anything specific I should try there?
Like I said in a previous post, Babe's is legendary around here, but I just don't get it. What kills it for me is what you basically said - I like my chicken a bit spicier. And everybody says their sides are great, but I swear I must've caught them on a bad day because they were way too salty and generally "blah". I will warn anyone that goes there that the Garland location is an utter MADHOUSE at lunch hours - especially on weekends. I've seen lines there extending out of the doors in the past. It's crazy - you'd think Jesus had just dropped in for a bite or something. I've had other people go there and say the hype wasn't met with what they experienced, but others will say there is no better fried chicken than Babe's.
I can respect that opinion. I'm a fiend for Thai and Indian food.......my two faves. Whatever I cook, I make spicy. But Babes probably only uses three spices--err...flavorings--in all of their sides: salt, black pepper, and lots and lots of butter. But you see.......my dad was born in Marlin, TX, in 1919, and he left school in fourth grade to pick cotton. He was COUNTRY, and this is the food I grew up on.........so I can't help but really like it. And the atmosphere matches the food. Like I said earlier, I'd prefer some more spice.......but eating at Babes is like visiting an old Aunt.
I LOVE Thai and Indian food. Just smelling Thai and Indian food is intoxicating - especially after not having it in a while. I also love great cajun/creole cooking. Something about the spices... I can respect that. It's southern food. I'm that way about catfish. People always ask me "how can you eat that crap?" Give me some fried catfish and good hushpuppies, tomato relish, etc and I'm a happy camper.
Oh ya........I forgot one of my other favorite places for fried chicken...........can't go to NYC without going here: http://www.amyruthsharlem.com/
chik-fil-a sucks. seriously people, do you even have taste buds? come on now. also, lol@one guy who brought up timmy-chan's. popeye's 4 lyfe
if KFC made their original crispy spicy........ oh man.... i remember eating spicy KFC chicken overseas, but they dont sell them domestically, what a shame i'd overdose on those
Lol well in UK its either KFC for ur "good chicken" for ur Poorman chicken but TASTY its Morleys or Dallas Us UK ppl on a grind hehe
I always get the Zaxby's club sandwich which is like 2 strips with bacon, cheese, mayo, lettuce, and tomato - except I take off the lettuce and tomato and substitute the mayo for their nuclear hot sauce (which is 2nd to the insane hot sauce in levels of hotness). That sandwich is so good and you get it with crinkle fries and a drink. Other popular ones are their wings (boneless and the "wings and things") as well as the nibblerz meal. I also think they have several grilled selections. Yes, you should definitely check it out - I think you will like it very much.
