Rimby, I just decided to let my friends descriptions of me speak in my place, cuz I know I am just too good for any descriptions I can think of, and their limited view of me will set you all up for a big surprise. BIG surprise. bwahahahahaha And if you don know what basketball dididly skilz are, it must have been a looong time since you played. I guess we will have to play some before your knees get sore. and playing ball is rarely a let down for me. Just dont diedidlydead on the court on me okay Rimmy? ------------------ I want to defend Cato in this sig, but I cant think of anything to write.
Little league (late elementary school). I scored 2 points in a season, on a fast break layup when I happened to be the guy closest to the other team's basket. Other than that, our team's coaches -- my elder brothers -- kept me on the bench nearly the whole time. I like to think they were just being extra careful about nepotism.
I was a late bloomer so I didn't have much of chance to make high-school or junior-high school ball. Played a lot on UT and UH intramurals. Played point guard on an older grad-student UH team that would kick all the younger student teams butts--because we played great team ball--until we would run into the "A" pressing teams full of guys who were borderline small-college caliber players. We could never compete againts those teams (our highlight was making the 8 team "A" turny bracket one year where we prompty got booted badly in our first game by the #1 seed), but it was fun and their presses never got to me In terms of style of play, I have a very erratic shot, but am a strong finisher, good passer and see the floor extremely well. I also am a bit physical relative to most PGs. I guess my game is more like Avery J, Kidd before he could shoot, or Stockton or Scott Skiles if they never could. And hearing about the Clutch City scrimmages really makes me want to play, too bad I am 2000 miles away. ------------------
I play HORSE with my nieces sometimes, but they usually whoop my ass. ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
pass 1st, you went to IKE??? So did I (way before you were there though ). Whatever happened to Crawford? I know he transferred somewhere, but never heard anything else. ------------------ I had amnesia once or twice. [This message has been edited by BobFinn* (edited May 01, 2000).]
My basketball stats are on another page, but my experience in baseball was this. Sixth grade baseball in Florida. My team went 2-48 (Royals, go figure). I played like Bogar, I got 2 extra base hits all year. I batted below .100 and I was what you might call a defensive expert until getting smashed in the eye with a line drive. Got up, wiped away the blood, and decided to play the safer sport of basketball for the rest of my life. Oh yeah, get this, we lost one game 25-2. And the scary thing about our poor record was that we won the first game of the year 12-11 on a wild pitch. Talk about a losing streak. 42 consecutive losses in one summer. ------------------ humble, but hungry. [This message has been edited by PhiSlammaJamma (edited May 01, 2000).]
I have been reading a lot of topics with people reminiscing about their high school days. I'm only 16 and a sophmore in high school. Even though football is my all-star sport, I am pretty good at basketball. Being a varsity center in football (I love gloating) I use my size and fair ball handling ability to muscle down-low with my 6'0'' 200lb frame, I feel I am a streaky shooter though. I live in Rhode Island but I try to get down to Houston at least once a year, so as soon as I hear the date I'll be there. ------------------ THE DEAN HAS WRITTEN [This message has been edited by DEANBCURTIS (edited May 01, 2000).]
Hmmm ... Lets see ... I have no real organized ball experience to speak of. I play at least 9 hours a week. Have learned a lot in these past few years. My friends view me as a strong rebounder and defender. Sometimes I take over games and get oohhs and ahhhs from the people watching. . . . oh, . . . BTW . . . . Rimmy, WHY DONT YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH! I know cripples, Ive got friends who are you kknow, but not one has had the audacity to challenge my basketball dididlyskilz. I destroy cripples in my post. MY POST!! Prepare for the pain! Stick to baking, and leave basketball to real players like me. ------------------ I want to defend Cato in this sig, but I cant think of anything to write.
I played in 7th grade. The coach was a football coach who did not understand a thing about basketball. The top team spots went to guys on the football team, who sucked major t*tty b*ttle. It was not a good experience for me, so I blew off trying out again. For any Texas school kids out there, if you to play any sport besides football, you have to play football to get the PT in the other sport. I did play a lot of summer pick up games. I faired pretty well against the players on the school team, but I really lacked size (5'11") to really go after a spot on any of the high school teams. Playing summer pick games taught me more about the game than anything thing else. I know how to foul and I know how to play against dirty players I also played in church leagues, where I always got to play center My most notable accomplishment in church league was leading the league in technicals. The league refs apparently were not required to read the rules before putting on the stripes. My knees are now shot, so I can't play anymore ------------------
Bobby Crawford originally went to Michigan and ended up playing in the Rice Owls' backcourt. I remember in his last couple of seasons he had foot and ankle injuries, but not sure whatever became of that. ------------------ ?
DUKE would have liked to play the basketball but MOM was very insistant. MOM was a very good high school player back in Hickory until her SENIER year, when she was the victum of getting hit on the head with a runaway free throw!!! It did not kill her (DUKE would not be born if itdid!) but she was sorta mentally defecteve after that. AND she would not let DUKE play ball!! "DUUUUUKE," she would say at the dinner table, "DUUUUUKE you haven't been playing the baskeball again have you?!? You know MOMMY wants you to be big big laywer!" Well I did not know how to argue with that!!!! Espeically because when Dinner was over MOM always wanted me to put her in her wagon and roll her down the hill our house was on. SO while you PUNKS were out playing the baskelball having FUN, DUKE was pushing his weird old MOM around in a red wagon. THANKS A LOT!!! BRing up bad memories YOU JERKS> ------------------ A HOUSE is not a HOME if it is ON FIRE.
I learned how to play basketball in my Junior year in High School. I trained for 3 months straight in the summer so I could make the team. I made the JV team. I broke several records when I shot 73% from 3 point range for the entire season. In my best game I nailed 6 of 7 three pointers. however, I went 0-8 on my two pointers (through out the season) and I led the league in double dribbles (1.3 a game). My senior year, I quite basketball to pursue acting. Now, here I am in LA, doing my acting thing. Hopefully, if I don't get cut, you guys will see me on Adam Sandler's next movie: Little Nicky, which comes out on Thanksgiving. I was on set for a whopping 28 days and got only 3 minutes of camera time. ------------------
I'm 16 and live in Australia and I would be what you call a all round guy. I take it to the hole, drane treys, block shots, steal, pass, grab boards but my weakness is I'm only 5'8. I am of course one of those white three point shooters (every Rockets fan has to be! ) Anyway my coach says I have a good chance to make the NBL (Australian league). He really likes my leap as 5'8 players down here don't get 3 blocks, 6 boards a game, my vertical is 27 inches. Any way I feel like I'm getting a bit carried away here as much as I would love to be in the NBA I don't really think I would have a chance......but I suppose that dud Luc Longley got there from here. ------------------ Walt the Wizard Williams. OK, here is mine. I've been playing since the tender age of 10. Never played for a school. I've been in church leagues, and many pick-up games. I play about 3 times a week, with the big boys around Almeda area. I have always tried to played like my hero, Sir Charles. I love to rebound, and play D. I can pass oh and I can definatly hit behind the 3. I play to win but I will also admit when I screw up a play or a shot. If I turn it over, I will work as hard as I can to get the ball back for my team. I let the game speak for me. But if it comes down to it, I'll talk some friendly mess Randall Lightfoot Wanna play in the clutchcity.net game? E-mail philip_w_moore_jr@hotmail.com ------------------
Ancient history: grew up in Indiana (every other driveway has a hoop); played year-around (just shovel the snow to the side). Played high school ball, and freshman year at Purdue (I'm only 5'7", and our starting five was four guys at 6'7" and me; needless to say, I stayed out of the paint!). Used to play in an Over 30 League until I moved to Texas, now it's an occasional pick-up game with my oldest son down at the school. Was not impressed with Texas basketball when I first moved here. I mean, Klein High's gym held maybe only 200 people, and most of the spectators were family and friends; I was used to playing before crowds of 5000 or more - and that was in towns that had half that many people. Biggest sports here were (and maybe still are) football and marching band! But there's been a lot of positive changes in the last twenty years - lots more kids playing ball (the driveway hoops don't resemble an Indiana neighborhood yet, but it's at least 200% better than it was). Of course, Indiana's screwed up now that they've replaced the State basketball tournament with Class basketball (now there are 5 State champions, and attendance has dropped off to next to nothing). But I digress. Good to see the interest in Texas! ------------------ "Who Wants To Be A Rocket?" - and probably a millionaire as well. The off-season will be interesting!
I play like Jordan. I can't hit very well and pretty much all of my skills are below average. ------------------ I'm sticking with Charlotte. I can't flip because I don't want to be confused with Peter Vecsey. -- Charles Barkley
