California has high taxes, but don't let facts get in the way:

Major, it is because we don't want to pay for other people's healthcare, and we many of us want the right to choose our level of insurance. I want choice, which under the current system, and the Obama system I feel I won't have. My employer essentially decides my plan for me. Its ridiculous to say whats good for the rest of the office, is whats good for me.

Juicystream I think you might be getting some wrong information about Obama’s plan. There are three core principles; it must reduce costs, guarantee choice, and ensure quality care for every American.

You already do pay for other people's health care.

After 7 years, finally found something that I liked, made sense, and was not my real name. That, combined with the fact that I now see a career path that includes positions of substantial responsibility, led me to petition for a change.

A rose by any other name, eh?

His plan is for me to keep my employer plan, which is not what I want. I want the ability to go choose my own private plan that fits me better completely tax free. That is something Obama's plan doesn't address. Why should you get employer offered healthcare tax-free, but pay taxes on the cost of health insurance purchased privately.

I admit I don't know much of the exact details, so if I'm wrong about his plan, than I welcome some clarification.

Sadly, I don't. I'm poor, or so the government tells me. My wife and son actually get medicaid now that my wife is pregnant. I would prefer it not be that way, and that is why I want the changes I'm asking for. I would rather choose a health plan to cover my family that fits my needs for less than the $854/month it would cost for my employer's plan. Instead my employer pays $350/month for insurance I will probably never use.

I don't know the overall healthcare answer, but I do know some simple tax reform would allow for more affordable care, foster more competition, and do away with an unfair part of the tax code that benefits the rich because its the people with very low end jobs that aren't even being offered employer plans and thus have to pay tax on their insurance premiums.
