It looks like it's a done deal that the Rox will pick up Ming. In recent Mock drafts, and in inside sources, seem to have Woods falling down to the tenth spot. If that is the case could the Rox maybe package 15 + Kt, to get him. I know he is a risk, but since we are already taking one w/Ming, why not roll the dice twice. At 6 9' he could make up our need for a 3 and even swing to play a back-up 2. What do ya'll think?
the buzz about Woods seems to be he's more of a project. A player with Woods' potential is tempting, but I'd opt for getting a SF who can hopefully step in and begin contributing immediately. Getting Odom would be one of my top choices. Same with Rashard. Within the draft, if Nachbar is as good as they say, he might be able to come in and make an immediate impact having professional ball experience in Europe.
I wondered this myself. Some mock drafts have Woods falling all the way to 10, to be picked by Miami. Do you think anyone would want a package of the #15 pick + KT to move up a few spots? What if we also threw in the picks we are to get from Chicago in the future (the Drew obligation)? That said, I'm hoping Nachbar falls to us at 15.
I think you could possibly land Woods too ... the question is though if you really want too ... he isn't supposed to bring any defense whatsoever and thats not really what you need ... secondly he is a project (but still 22 years) and do you need more projects than Griffin & Ming?
Who knows it might work out,but as Relativist pointed out Woods is a project, and I think the Rockets will pass up on him as they are looking for a more experienced player.Nachbar has contract problems which may result in him falling lower than 15.If we can't get Odom I think the choice might be Jared Jefferies with the 2nd pick because of his point forward like skills.
Most likely the Rockets will get two Bulls second round picks (before the 2005 draft?) in the Drew trade (mainly since the addition of Drew did not lead the Bulls into the playoffs )
I don't think any sf will slide past Miami. If we can package collier,kt and the 15th and send to the clipps for the 8th,they could take woods or jeffries. I think they might just stand pat and take nachbar though.
It all depends on the trades that Houston has in mind. It could be interesting to see, if they take Ming, would they want to nab Wang ZhiZhi and Menk Bateer, who are free agents. If the Rockets know they will solve the SF issues with trades, and who they will ship out, that will determine who they draft. I'd like to see them pick up a FA, such as Lee Nailon, Michael Redd, Loren Woods, or Jerome James. I think if we keep everyone on our team, Taylor or Griffin will probably slide over to SF, but I seriously doubt Rice, Taylor, or Thomas will be here next year. If we keep the #15, we'll also possibly have the #23 from Detroit, which I'd hope we'd trade down with to get another pick, ship that one off to Atlanta. And then we have the #38, also. I'd rather trade KT for someone like Diop for for another project center with potential. So, after the #1, we COULD have 2 more 1st round picks. It just all depends on what other trades and FAs are planned by the Rockets. Probably, I'd just take the best player available, and hope someone like Hilario or Stoudamire falls. If no one falls from the top 10, then I guess I'd take Nachbar, J Jeffries, Haislip, or Ely. I still have hopes that TMo will develop.
Detroit doesn't owe us the #23 pick. You might be thinking of the future 1st rounder they owe us from the Mirsad Turkcan trade. However, we moved that pick on in exchange for Terence Morris last year.
Actually, it came out in the last few weeks, that we don't owe that first rounder to Atlanta until 2004, and we can give them any 1st round pick. If we get the Detroit pick from the Turckan trade, and there's someone who's fallen another team really wants, we could trade down for a later first round pick to someone who would give us another future first rounder by 2004, then send that one to Atlanta. If we don't do something like that, we'll have to send this one to Atlanta, since next year Memphis has our pick, and the league doesn't allow you to trade your own pick 2 years in a row.
Woods had an average of 5.1 Turnover/Game last year. Very high for SG/SF or any player for that matter.
since we absolutly need a sf,and everyone around here wants a euro guy,why trade down the 15th pick and take Boris Diaw? He plays for Pau,my team in France, and i think he's going to have a good rooky year.Same as Parker. Just a thought... ALA
