Personally, I played JV basketball my freshman year, then realized there isn't much demand for short white jump-shooters who can't handle the ball, so I switched to soccer as my highschool sport. I still like playing in pick-up games though.

How much of the rest of you guys played?

I played in junior high, high school (two years JV, two years varsity) in which I started my junior year, then sat on the pine my senior year. I played at Plano East my senior year and played behind eventual Michigan Fab Five guard Jimmy King, so I got little PT.

I played two years of junior college ball at Collin County in Plano, TX in 1992-1993. Now I have a bad left knee and only play once or twice a week, in a corporate league and a little pick up ball.

I am nowhere near the player I was a few years ago, but still have my moments.

Played 4th-8th grades then sat out my freshman year in high school. Played well in my sophmore year but partially tore my ACL and became a musician! [IMG]

My best seasons (7th and 8th), I averaged 14 ppg and played point. I was always a great outside shooter, but they didn't have the 3pt line yet when I was in high school - bummer. My one season in high school, I had a coach that disliked me but still managed around 10 ppg from the wing position (point/2 guard).

Played tons of pick up games after that, but have been limited because of a nasty back injury I had about 6 years ago. I can still shoot but love to pass the ball more than anything. That means me an Pass 1st can't be on the same team! [IMG]

I played varsity for 4 years at my high school(fresh-sr) then had tryouts at swt and blew out my acl in practice. That ended my career

I played some ball in Junior High, but instead of playing the position I thought I was - point - I ended up playing nothing but . . . Left-Bench. Lets just say that the bench and myself got well acquainted during my 7th and 8th grades [IMG]

But, after growing a little, improving my jump shot and gaining more confidence, my role increased in High School. So far, I haven't started more than 3 games, but the last two years I've managed to somehow become the spark off the bench. Although I can play with razzle and dazzle and use my speed to my advantage along with a deadly cross-over, I play best when I stick to the fundamentals - hitting the open shot, penetrating and dishing off to the open man. Despite being only 5"9", I do have some posting abilities, but my weakness is my inconsistent outside shot, while my forte is my blanketing defense. I didnt make the team because of my offensive capabilities, but because of my defensive hustle. I have the reputation of the guy who does all the dirty work - dive for loose balls, make timely steals, grab offensive rebounds over the towers and take the charges. I don't really have a choice though, thats what I have to do in order to stay on the team!

I wish I had the opportunity to join in on the hyped-up "clutchcity.net pick-up game", but unfortunately that would be inpractical for various reasons. If its in the summer (after June), then it may be possible, yet still unlikely. So I guess that would make it difficult for your resident Canuck to take you Texans to school and humble all your gordita-loving buts. I'm staying in my igloo for now. [IMG]

Did someone mention short, white jump shooters with no handles?? OK, so I'm not really a "jump shooter", but more of a slasher...

My story is pretty weird...I used to play nothing but sandlot football when I was a kid, (I even played a year of football in the 7th grade, but there's not much demand for short, white guys there either), but I got my tooth knocked out while playing a football game, so I picked up a basketball around the 10th grade and haven't played football since. I'm at the park at least three days a week tossing the rock around. I really wish I had played basketball since I was five or six. If I had, I might actually be able to go LEFT by now!!

Also, I've never once wiped the bottom of my shoes...

I played all 3 of my years in middle school, and I just finished my second season on the JV team in high school. I'm not a starter though, and I don't play a lot of minutes. My game though is completely offensive minded. I am pretty slow, not a great defender, and I don't have a lot of athletism. I rely on my offense to take me places. My outside shot is tremendous. (I've won countless shooting awards in my life) I also have a good post-up game for my size, which is 5'9. I can drive, shoot in traffic, and basically be a scorer. However, I am undersized, because at my height I should be a PG but I'm actually a SG because I'm just an average dribbler/penetrator and have a scorer's mentality. If you want to know what I play like, watch Predrag Stojakovic of the Kings. My game is exactly (and I mean exactly) like his in almost every way.

By the way, like I did with Stojakovic, name any NBA player who your style resembles- whether it be closely or not so close. Don't necessarily pick a superstar player to say your game is like, because I doubt there are that many people in here that just dominate. Just pick a player, superstar or role player, that your game is similar to. It would give us a better hint of the type of player each of us is.

I played kindergarten ball, I led the nation in shot attempts but...(fg%-2%) [IMG] Needless to say, I didn't make the first grade team. Thank goodness for playground ball.

    Here is a recipe:

Heat a heavy skillet on medium.
add 38 times the regular level of CriscoKidd's game
    5 cups sugar for sweetness
    5 cups butter for smoothness
    bring to a boil

The end product is is rimbaud's game.
So much better than "ordinary" CriscoKidd's game.

In sixth grade I played organized ball in one of the city leagues (Pasadena). I joined the team because my football coach was coaching this basketball team as well and many of the guys on our football team were joining. I was the point guard. I can remember one game I took the ball down to the righ corner of the court and nailed a jump shot. I did the exact same thing a second time. I went to the same spot the third time down and shot the ugliest air ball I've ever seen (until the one Kukoc shot on Saturday). Forth time down I passed the ball to one of our better players. Ever since then, not much in the way of organized basketball.

I would like to play more often, but I'm not that good. And I'm certainly not a point guard anymore. I'm more like an extremely short power forward (5'9"). Kind of like Barkley without the ability to score or rebound. But I do think I play better defense than he did. [IMG]

i played in my freshman year. in school i'm known for being a football player , but the best game i ever had was when i scored 28 points and got 10 rebounds. i usually did'nt play alot because i guess i need contact or something, i usually applied my football skills into basketball games and that just did'nt work, so i stuck to football and track even though i'd rather watch a rockets pre season game than the superbowl.

I went all-playground. Shortly before middle school I lost my eligibility by signing with an agent. For whatever reason I went undrafted and had to return to school in disgrace.

Only recently have I picked up the ball again.

    Hoop T,
I went to high school with Bobby Crawford, who after graduation in 1993 went on to Michigan in the first year after the break up of the Fab 5. Anyway, I played with him more than a few times, although I usually got so schooled it was pathetic. So I guess we have some common ground.

For the rest of y'all, I neve really played basketball until I was 19, but have played intramural throughout college and law school. Now I'm a certified bad ass. Kidding. But I love to play, and can play like I've had some serious high school PT on a varsity squad at times. Other times I look like that dorky white kid in the Adidas commercial sitting on the bench and screaming for his teammates. In any event, I love to play basketball almost as much as I love to race BMX bikes.

    P1 S2,
We have a lot more in common than I would have guessed. I also used to race BMX bikes, flatland, etc. Now I mountain bike frequently. Anyway, when we get together for the game, remind me to tell you about the first day of practice with Jimmy King. I didn't know who he was, and we somehow got into mixing words, he scored on me off a pick and talked ****, I told him anyone could score off a pick like that and told him he hadn't done anything to impress me.

Needless to say, he drove on me, crossed me over, and dunked on me left handed. He then asked me if that impressed me.

I said, "yes" very hesitantly. The **** talking was over for me. Then someone else on the team told me he was one of the nation's top recruits. WOOPS!!!!

Am I the only ****** 27-year-old who used to be lightning quick, but now can only wait for a dish on 3?

Thank God for anonymity. But if you guys ever see a slightly overweight, short white guy with a scar on the right side of his face, standing around the perimeter, asking for the ball, and shooting wildass 3s...

Lord, you people really make me feel older than I am...

Strangely My game looks a lot like Brian Grant. [The Dreds I wear also adds to the comparison - Mine are long ;-) ]

Rebounder, Defense, and then the shot [I think I got more Range.] A hustle Player

But being 5'11 [you guys making me feel like SHAQ with all the 5'9s] I would have to be
Tim hardaway to move on anywhere.

My handles are suspect . .. I'm more a post up player. [In college they called it the Buffalo Offense. Take someone off the wing . .to the middle and Mark Aguirre them *bump and take the shot*]

Broken Ankle has slowed me. . .[Still got the bone chips]

    Hey Crisco!
    Who you calling cripple?
Oh yeah, that's what I called myself. Well...

"your friends" view you as a strong rebounder and defender? Don't you know they are just trying to be nice - that that is really code for "he got no game"?
And what are basketball dididly skilz?

My game needs only one adjective: SMOOVE (that is the phonetic spelling, so don't try to correct me!).

But, seriously, ever since I was told never to play basketball again because of my knees (little cartiledge left and mild arthritis) I have played very little. But my background is all playground so my rusty jumper does not matter too much. I can still play decently for short periods of time before my knees need a break. Still get oohs and ahhs with crazy moves, crossovers, and baby hooks. But my days of serious ball are long behind me, never to be seen again.

Crisco, you realize that when we actually play it will be a let down because of all this buildup. But I'll still talk smack.

Believe it or not, I actually played a bit of basketball in England from the ages of 13-16. I was an undersized power forward then, who was the blue-collar banger on the team - getting rebounds and playing tough D. Then I stopped growing at 5'8(Damn my genetic make-up! [IMG]), so I reverted back to soccer. I've recently started playing again, but I'm more of a perimeter player but without 3pt range. I recently set my best of making 23 consecutive free throws - so that makes me better than Shaq, right? [IMG] I can still play the tough D and get the rebounds using my 11 inch vertical 'leap'. Actually, I use my fat a$$ to barge people out of the way. Ankle injuries also limit my play.

So there it is. I'm the second greatest player England has produced, behind John Amaechi. [IMG]
