I don't hate anyone, well except people who can't understand the nuances of talking about a player's deficiencies without calling them a hater.

Do you watch rockets games or do you play with the on 360? Battier is a standstill, wide open shooter. He doesn't slash, cut, basically nothing on offense unless he is butt naked and can read the spaulding on the ball. Artest has turned into a spot up guy, but he can take and make contested shot. He cuts sometimes, but most of his scoring comes from his own action. Scola will move to open spots and make up jumpers. Yao finishes sometimes, but most of his scoring is done by backing down and shooting. That's why lowry played well with landry, wafer, and to a extent brooks. He's not a guy that will take contested shots either. This is the nba and there are times when you have to create space and shoot over guys. Lowry, as I said before is earl watson. Nothing wrong with earl watson and u know what u will get and u get stediness, but no explosion. Brooks being explsive made La adjust their strategy to trap or get the ball out his hands early. That counts for something.

Lowry is more like Jason Kidd, it would help if you have actually played basketball in your lifetime to understand how and why Lowry is better suited than Aaron Brooks.

Shane Battier is a stand still shooter. Yes, that is correct. But you think he has absolutely no clue how to cut and slash? Hmm...You must be thinking of his days with Memphis. I've seen many times, when Yao got doubled and Shane ended up cutting inside the paint and got an easy layup because of Yao's read on the double. Play basketball before talking about it.

    Umm...What?

What is your take on this? Or do you have no take until we know who will be on the roster in training camp?

So, when I say that AB is like an early Tony Parker that is not ok, but saying Lowry is like Jason Kidd IS ok...????

    ROFLMAO...

Oh, and Leeb played college basketball at SWT, I used to call his games....He knows what he is talking about....as long as it isn't Scola.

    :D

You however, have proven to NOT know what you are talking about.....but hey, at least you are consistent.

Leebigez has played basketball before, and he likes to remind people of this quite frequently. So I found that part of your post kind of funny.

I think if both are here at the start of the season Brooks will be the starter unless Lowry thoroughly outplays him in training camp and preseason. Right now I do like Lowry a little more as a PG, but he does need to improve his jumper. I'm cautiously optimistic he'll be a better, more confident shooter next season.

Although it was very homerous of me to say that. Lowry does have a lot of things in common with Jason Kidd just to point that out. And no Aaron Brooks does not have many things in common with Tony Parker at all. They are both quick and that's it. Can I remind you that Tony Parker's BIGGEST WEAKNESS WAS HIS SHOOTING, when he first came to the league? That's Aaron Brooks' currently BEST ASSET. So how are they alike?

Aaron Brooks most overrated comparison is either Allen Iverson or Jameer Nelson.

I see and I agree with most of your post about Lowry and Brooks. Sorry then to Leebigez, he might want to be a bit nicer in his post instead of having an ego of Shaq.

I'm no king of the court, although I did get offered scouting jobs after I left college. I can engage in talking x's and o's any day all day and can be civil about it. I may miss a stat or a percentage from time to time, but when a guylike wemissdekeman talks about cutting, slashing, and stuff like that, I can't let the integrity of the board suffer.

Now the young man talks about shane getting a lot of easy layups but shane cutting to basket and being fed by Yao. I will to bet him that shane doesn't have 20 such plays in the whole season. Isn't that what i'm always squaking about? Shane makes entry pass to yao, stands there, look, chill, and when his man leaves, he doesn't move toward the goal at all. Now like I said, people may think I have a grudge against shane for other reasons, but my axe to grind is primarily this.

Back to brooks and lowry, when guys move like scola does, it does seem like brooks have a problem finding him. When he was on the 2 nd team and he had landry and wafer, he had no problem finding those guys when they're open. Like I've said, I like both guys, but brooks can be a tony parker like and lowry is earl watson like.

    Battier is a slasher.

I've seen many times Yao made a dribble. Yao is a PG.

i voted for lowry just because he doesn't demand the ball to score, he defers to other players, better scorers, high % shooters and plays more like a traditional point guard rather than a shoot-first point guard. unless you can shoot like Billups or Nash, pass the ball!

I want a true poing guard who knows how to pass the ball. With Brooks on our team we can never advance to the final. Lowry can be the backup pg.

Lowry at the point. The starters should all be about the other guys -- Yao, Scola, Artest, etc. As much as I like Brooks the offense inverses when it's him on the floor; he becomes option 1 and Yao becomes option 5. At least, that's what it feels like when he's on the floor because he's such a mediocre passer. Lowry has a higher B-ball IQ. Brooks is the perfect kind of player to come off the bench, a la Ben Gordon.

Lowry really need to practice his jumper hard this off season. He was wide open lots of time during the lakers series and refused to shoot. If he can get his jumpers down, I'll take him as the starter. He's way more aggressive then AB0

If TMAC is coming back and ready to play next year. I think Brooks is expandable. Since Brooks is a scorer, there won't be enough balls to go around. They will need a pass first PG and Kyle is that type of player. I would say trade Brooks for a backup center if TMac is coming back healthy and ready.

    why?
any stats, numbers can tell that Lowry is clearly a better fit with Yao?

Also, why does our PG have to fit with Yao? not the team?

I'd say Brooks is a better fit for the team.
to backup my point, we got more wins and passed the first round with Brooks as a starting PG.

Look at the assists per game for both. The minutes/assists ratio between the two is vast. The last time I checked, pg's are supposed to be the ball distributor in a team. The great ones, even the good ones are rated based on their asst to TO ratio. Brooks is nowhere close to a decent ratio. Court vision and passing ability could be learned but it could only improve early on in a basketball player's life, when he/she could make passing instinctive. In Brooks' case it is too late at age 24 to develop that passing skill which is based on a developed or intrinsic instinct.

Brooks showed some scoring skills in the playoffs but they were not even consistent. I guess we are going the Moochie Norris route again with him. All hype because of his hairstyle and some bursts of good games. Let us not be dazzled by some crystal passed on as diamond. Let us look at Brooks from a more fundamental, and yes, with some little basketball science instead of relying on our emotion and memory of a few games in the playoffs. If my memory serves me right, based on wathcing the games again, Brooks had many more stinking games than good ones in the playoffs, and the most telling one was the game 7 vs. the Lakers. A player can never be a pg unless he knows how to make the fundamental pass, especially the proper entry pass into the post- with or without Yao. Brooks is awful at that so that alone makes the case against him. Lowry it is to answer the OP's query. But hey, some good ones are FA's now- like Andre Miller and Mike Bibby. How about going after Nash for a two year attempt at a championship.

You've been on this board for over a year and still have problems understanding basketball. How would mcgrady coming back make brooks expendable? If anything, it makes brooks more valuable because tracy is the pg and brooks becomes the scorer. Brooks plays better when he's in attack mode. If tracy comes back, which I doubt, he makes lowry into rafer.

I'm setting up my basketball clinics again, if you're in hou/galveston area, maybe I'll give you some hands on coaching and basketball tips.

Brooks is a better scorer, I'll agree with that 100%. However, with Yao, Artest, Scola, and possibly McGrady or somebody we could trade Tmac for, we don't need scoring in our starting lineup.

Lowery also is a much better defensive point guard than AB, he gets to the free throw line, he can actually run an offense, and he is a better passer with a much higher basketball IQ.

I like Aaron Brooks, but I think he fits in much better off the bench. He can focus on scoring off the bench. He can also play at an uptempo pace with Landry, Hayes, Wafer, and whoever else is in there with them. He can't do that with Yao in the game.

Also, if we need scoring late in the game, I'm all for putting Brooks in the game with our starting unit.

If he can become a much smarter point guard, then I wouldn't mind him starting, because he would give teams fits at times with his speed. BUT, until then, we should just let him do what he does best, which is score, and in order for him to fulfill his potential in that, he should come off the bench.

I don't think Lowery is an amazing point guard or anything. If we can get a better true point guard, I say lets go after that option. If we have to give up Brooks or Lowery, then so be it. I think we are a good, solid point guard and a servicable back up center away from being a contender, with a healthy Tmac or a playmaker similar to him.

But if no changes are made, then I say start Lowery. If Tmac isn't the same or not healthy, then start Brooks, because he is the only player besides Tmac that can break down a defense from the perimeter.

I think it should be situational, but if everybody comes back healthy, I say we need the balance, and start Lowery. Brooks would be much better off the bench and more productive in my opinion; either one could finish games also, depending on what we need.
